    Default Sad Day

    Well...

Today I was at a cousins house, looking at something on my phone (Nexus 4).

Then I went into the living room with the phone in my hand, and it slipped out and hit the ground. =(

I go to pick it up and notice my screen has spider webbed cracks all over the bottom corner.

In my mind, I was thinking, this is fine, as long as I can still use it. =)

Then I found out the Nexus 4 is built in a way that the screen and digitizer rely on each other.... so now I have a $390 paper weight....

    So... What now?

Was thinking of calling LG and seeing how much a repair would be. (Others have gotten theirs fixed for $169 from LG)

    Anyone else have advice/stories?

why make the thread if you already know the answer noob

"Nexus 4 is built in a way that the screen and digitizer rely on each other.... so now I have a $390 paper weight...."
paraphrased: your screwed, and your only option is to do what comes next in this post

"calling LG and seeing how much a repair would be. (Others have gotten theirs fixed for $169 from LG)"
paraprased: you either a) have a paperweight or b) pay $170 to get a repair

Actually if you would have read it completely I was asking for advice (and) stories.

Also, stop calling me a noob, I don't mind it on IRC as it's all fun and games, but don't do it here.

For most phones you can buy the screen and digitizer on ebay for fairly low prices. They even come with tools and instructions to repair it.

Ouchies I'm sorry to hear that. :/ As much of a fan as I am of Google I'd always recommend going for a cheaper chinese phone. I'm planning on buying the Star X920F which has the MTK6589T CPU (quadcore 1.5 per core), (only) 1GB RAM, 16 ROM, 12mp camera, 5", and so on... It's about the same stats as the Samsung S3 but about half of what you paid for your Nexus.

I know there's a lot of people who would be against it with the same 'old "If it's from China it's junk" but my little Xperia-clone from China, which I bought a year ago, has never given me problems and my friend with a Samsung Note 1 complains about how hers runs slow, lags, and has slow internet and is still envious of my little 1gh 4" phone. I've seen no lack in quality or performance from mine to this day.

But ya know that's just my opinion. If it were me I'd fix it, sell it, and buy a cheaper phone with the same specs.

$228 isn't really half of what I paid.... I paid $390 for this nexus 4, and it has much better specs.

Also, It's only $170 to get this fixed (afaik), so $180 is much better than $228.

Tho this time I think I will prob get a case for it.... One of those one's for protection.

You could sell the broken Nexus 4 to someone that is looking for one that he can repair himself for a lower price or something. Guess you can still get like 200$ for it.

But that China phone that Flight linked has pretty good specs, especially for it's price. But the Nexus 4 runs Android the best of any phone I'd say. The new LG G2 is also rather exciting.

    5.2" 1920x1080 screen
    3mm bezels
    Snapdragon 800 quadcore 2.3Ghz
    Mali 330 GPU (sick)
    13 MP camera
    etc.
But will probably set you back like 600$

Looks like an HTC one knockoff... but oddly attractive for such a pricetag

Agreed, but why not try fixing it yourself (http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-Google-Ne...item53fc5065ad)
Its still around $100 but still cheaper than having them fix it/

That's a bid, and yes I could buy the parts and do it myself, tho I'd prob want to find a reputable place to buy the parts from and research what I will be doing first.

I know what I can and cannot do myself.

Oh touche' but I've found it at a price of $192 so far. I'm just waiting for it to drop down $20 or $30.

    Nexus buddys?
I'v had mine for like 3 weeks and I find mine really really slippy. I can understand how you dropped it.
What case were you thinking of? I still need a case and was thinking about http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAMRICK-Nexu...e+nexus+4+case

Haven't thought of which case yet, prob wont have the cash to get it fixed for awhile.... LG says it will prob be around $150, tho they can't give me a definite price unless I send it in and they inspect it.

Yeah, It's very slippery (frictionless?).... Basically any table not made of rubber and not perfectly balanced... it will fall off of..

Ya my nexus 4 has already slipped off a coffee table and scratched the screen >.> case from ebay is still in the mail. Yep a definite bummer. Btw @Flight could you do a little review of that phone when you get it? I'm definitely interested at that price point...

Can do. But it will probably be a while as I said before I'm waiting for it to drop $20-$30.
