Default Donate to Charity with rsgp/items via the new well!

    http://www.runescape.com/charity/well_of_goodwill

This is an update me and many others have wanted for a LONG time. It will also help the economy tremendously if we do it right.

-First off, buy items that are crashing, but for WAY below mid. The well takes mid value, you can 2x or even triple your donation value by buying crashing items!

-If you plan to donate alot, buy bossing gear/whips/gs/etc. Remember how we always complain there is no item sink? Bossing gear is worthless now because there is no way to remove it aside from alching? Now is the time to change that!

-Bottom line, DON'T DONATE GP, Donate via items. We already have a ton of GP sinks, but no item sinks. In the end, you will benefit from this because bossing items will actually rise.

Can't wait to see the market effects, this is a desperately needed update. Last 4-5 updates have all been GP sinks..which is great, but this is an item sink..which is even better! Saving the game + charity = profit

Edit: talking to a mod, 15mins in and already 7bil has been donated. Two people have the 1bil+ donator title. Pretty awesome

    Well played jagex. Well played.

Great update. Though you could just rwt the gold and donate it and get double the amount for charitys...
But item sinks (y) I'm sure its also a good money sink (I doubt that many people are going to think about donating items though :/

Great choice of charitys and I'm sure that special effect is something that is personal to you going through the type of thing they help with.

Edit: I don't agree with the hiscores for it even if its temporary. Being public about the amount you give is a sin in the Christian faith (not that I'm a good Christian or anything and I'm sure it will increase donations...)

Yeah alot of people are not happy with that aspect, the top donation list. http://www.runescape.com/charity/well_of_goodwill

Overall it is a great concept though, 4-5th update in last 3 months that has a good money sink in it. Which we need ever so badly

It's always Runescape's forum population that complain about every single update. That minority thinks they speak for the majority. I personally don't mind that it has a hi scores system.

But yeah, I can see the economy recovering to a somewhat respectable state again. Now if everyone donated 1 whip and 1 dark bow...

This is definately going to be popular I think RS3 will really benefit from this overall. And all the money is going to charities as well. It will put Jagex in a better light and perhaps attract more players. Smart move overall.

Fixed Link, jagex changed it for some reason lol. Over 40bil gp/items donated and 783 bonds so far. Pretty impressive. Nearly $8,000 in like 7hours.

Bonds are worth 47mil if you donate. But since i want the econemy to recover, im donating items. Sigil's are great items. divine sigil = 181mil mid, buys for 60-70mil. 3x your donation. While bonds are 6.7x

Personally I think public highscores for this are a good thing. People will be competitive which will bring in more donations.

Yours won't, you're selling your gold to fund your drug addiction instead of donating

Once Jagex donates the money the charity middle-men will profit.

I just find it a bit hard to trust them, but it should help out with their general corroding image. On another note this gives me a chance to get rid of those useless dust-collecting Christmas Crackers laying around in my bank. Honestly, I hate scrolling past them in the bank thinking of all the possible uses for that bank space; I could even store shrimp there.

I have no crackers, feel pitty on me with my bank full of stinking rotting raw fish.

Nah there is 3 titles, that is it. one for any size donation, one for 10mil+ and one for 1bil+

It helps the players because any smart person doesn't donate rsgp, they donate crashing items (tectnoic armour, sigils , etc) 3-4x's your donation and helps make bossing more profitable. Or you can buy bonds via ge and donate them. 6x your donation.

Pretty easy to manipulate the well, works off of ge mid price.

Yeah I'd imagine it would be like the 200 million goal and jagex will just donate it anyway. Is the well a permanent thing? and is the goal a time limited thing?

Maybe they're hoping most donations will be from bonds so they make more money.

Edit: as of right nowish, 1969 bonds have been donated. Bonds are $5 each, so jagex has made $9845. Jagex says that 1969 is equivalent to $9254 raised. This means so far Jagex has made $591 from selling bonds to be donated. That will help make up for the money lost from the GP donations.

Also I'd be surprised if they were in a deficit considering how much they can make from micro-transactions now

2012 was Jagex's most profitable year to date according to a Forbes article.

    @The Killer

I think it's 30 days, I'll have to check when I get home but i'm pretty sure there's a timer on the top left part of the page that is keeping track of all donations.

I believe that there over games have been rather successful recently. I'v seen ace of spades around enough.

There were 70,000 people playing concurrently online at the time of this post
    This isnt true anymore.
“Runescape’s unique in that the free game, which is a subsection of the game, has tens of thousands of hours of gameplay so you don’t ever finish,” said Gerhard
Sounds right. Only way to become good is too cheat
Gerhard also believes the bigger entertainment landscape, led by mobile, is impacting player expectations when it comes to costs. With many games being free-to-play and many games, music and movies available starting at 99 cents, but yeah, players expect more for every dollar they spend.
Is more than true. Browser games such as runescape are considered really childish to play outside of school but when its on your phone its awesome! Jagex need to bring runescape to mobile devices (yes Ik theres already been talk of this)

To be honest, this is the smartest thing they've done in a while. They economy is getting stronger, and their donating to charity. Plus they're losing like nothing to what they make off the actual game.
