Hard to believe, but this looks really nice and it's a great idea. I hope these little gizmos have a good radar system to prevent from running into objects in the sky or near the ground. And what about weather; would that effect them?

I think by that time Google will have already made something similar or more advanced.

Looks pretty much like a drone, and drones are sometimes looked down upon due to 'privacy' issues, recording/taking pictures of events and people along the way as it is in the air.

Won't be that long till you see other Private operated drones by people in the air; if the FAA is going to allow amazon to do it, others will pitch in and join the boat.

Devices like that are illegal in some states, and people have shot drones down with their owns guns (serious)

I'd shoot it down... I wouldn't trust this darn thing to hold my package due to the crime (thieves). But hey Les' see how if they provide a good assurance.

There probably wouldn't be any risk for the consumer because it would have to be covered by amazon, and for that reason I'm surprised amazon would risk it.

Also I assume they mean fully automated when they say unmanned, so they better have a Google-like grasp of autonomous vehicles. I think partnering with Google would make the most sense in that respect.

As for people shooting down drones with their own guns, If the drones are legally allowed to be there then it would be illegal to destroy it. (Probably similar to how you can't shoot up a UPS truck because it's driving in front of your house.

If drones aren't allowed to be there, then it's a moot point because they simply wouldn't be there.

I think the biggest issues for this would be obstacles (trees, power lines) and theft prevention. I'm sure obstacles can be handled easily with either today's or tomorrow's technology, and theft prevention might be as simple as GPS tracking and insurance.

It is already legal in one part of a state to shoot down drones and turn them in for a $100 per drone shot down lol ( i forget where, but i read the article couple months ago).

Some pizza place wanted to do this, and probably is still looking into it, but its honestly not worth the time. It will never be 100% reliable, some air space is ALWAYS restricted and so many personal properties... Ill just stick with next day delivery lol

I thought about this also but it makes me imagine someone going through the trouble of this and opening up the shipment box just to find a magazine or name cards.

Overall I don't see how they expect a municipal law to take precedence over a federal law, but ok.

But if you brought it down gently with a net or directional cellphone jammer (should such a thing exist) then you'd also get a free octocopter!

I'd imagine they'd look into solar power, or perhaps already have.

I think their success would be better off if they sold the copters themselves as units to other companies.

At my point of view, Prime Air is much of a fragile piece of robotics. That test was done in a great climaterical situation. No much wind, no rain..
They could easily crash on site. And the GPS system..Those coordinates, to drop near the door/ garden ? hmm..

1000 USD per delivery. I'm afraid we won't see anything like this in the nearest future, atleast not here in Norway. I would know, I work in the business.
