Default The old man is sad

Why would the old man be sad? Well...

People have been getting a little snippy with each other in my bonsaiFighter thread. Not a flamefest or anything, but, to me, it's a big deal. I hope people are well spoken in any thread, but my fighter thread is extra special (to me) in that regards.

I know the internet is an animal house. I participate in forums where flaming and inexcusable behavior is the norm. I enjoy them quite a bit. But this isn't one of them. Harsh posts or angry words are counter productive.

New people can be annoying; I get it. Most complaints are from not following the directions properly. It gets tiring after a while. But if you don't have the patience to help them, leave it to someone else. Also, try to remember how overwhelming this can be on the first day (x10 if you're not a technical person).

    Consider these:
i suspect you missed something in the settings
god, read the instructions you idiot
It's all in the tone, isn't it? They have the same general message but one of them makes a person feel very unwelcome and attacked. Please think about the tone of your posts before hitting the submit button.

Someone on this forum once told me they were going to leave villavu but they decided to stay because of my fighter thread. Because I was patient with new people and treated them with respect. That made this community worth coming to, for at least one person, and it means a lot to me to know that.

I would like to see it stay that way.

Let's all work together to cheer up this old man - no one should have to be sad during the Christmas season!

im willing to help if people ask nicely why something doesnt work or if they provide good information. BUT... if somebody posts something like this: "this script sucks it doesnt work", don't expect an answer from me.

Alright I'll point it out, I appear to be "that guy" if it is any posting from today that you're commenting on. Reading back on my posts, I'll admit that my message about not double posting sounds like the "god, read the instructions, idiot" kind of post. I feel like the rest were a result of making extreme effort to have patience with someone who was not willing to respond to any of my attempts to help and who had spammed up your thread with the same question multiple times. It was an attempt at your first example of a post rather than the latter.

Even so, I still deserve blame for not making the thread pleasant because the posts come off condescending when I read them again. It's a good reminder that even if you have good intentions you should always read into your posts with an eye on how they look to others, because you could still come away looking like a clown.

I have to honest with you, hoodz, the next time I see someone disrespect a script writer like that we'll both figure just how far my SSRL powers go.

I can understand him doing that, but why would it make you sad?

how could he possibly get sad with an awesome beard like that though?

(you could substitute "beard" ^ with "script" to make yourself feel better )

Its the attitude of the one asking for help that ticks most of us.
because sometimes we give them sufficient feedback on simple questions
and they show us an ungrateful bad attitude back.

I can see how you would feel that way.
I try to help as many people as I can with my limited knowledge.
I have on times told people to read the instructions or a post in the thread to fix their problem.

I completely agree, if people aren't nice when someone asks for help, it makes the rest of the users hesitant to ask for help when they need it. I remember feeling this way when I first joined the community. I didn't really want to ask for help because I thought the questions I had were extremely basic and felt stupid to ask, but as I got to know more and more people here it made me feel better The community should be a nice helpful place, where anybody can ask questions and get a good response.

It's funny you mention this, because it's exactly how I feel right now. Just trying to take it in piece by piece and swallow that pride or image of looking like an idiot.
