Keyloggers normall come in the form of a .exe or something else that you must run or extract. I highly doubt that .jpg is a keylogger, but you NEVER know. Guys get smart, they might learn how to do stuff no ones thought possible.

i did hear about some keyloggers that you can put in images, and you get infected just by looking at them

but i heard it from jagex, maybe they were just trying to stop people going to fansites

It is true that a few weeks ago or something there was a flaw in the Microsoft graphical visual engine?, that just by looking at a certian wrongly erncoded image could produce viral effects. Similar to opening a purposely wrongful encoded .doc file, that could run its own scripts on your computer. I believe the image problem was patched, and if you downloaded the update you should be fine.

Also i think that since its directing it to a php image link, that you can manually just have a pageload dialer on it, and the image is a distraction.

I do remember there was an exploit that you could use a malformed bitmap as your display picture on MSN Messenger and it could infect everyone that had you added if they weren't using a third-party client.

Moral of the story: Where there's a virus, Microsoft has a way (to get it onto your computer)

Many of the viruses actually auto-send those messages dude. So those IMs might have just been generated by the virus, and not the guy himself. I get those sometimes too, and when the people are online, they say they have no idea about sending those IMs. (I know they aren't lying because I know I can trust them )
