    Default antivirus

well i sort of narrowed it down to NOD and Kaspersky. Then i saw some good things about antiVir and F-secure

but i'm still leaning towards NOD and kaspersky. So if anyone would tell me their oppinion about which one i should get (my mom is buying it so its the non-free ones )

EDIT: or pointing out the pros/cons of each

You should get Avg. its the best antivirus software for free on the market.

but if your content on one of those two, go with kaspersky. its better than NOD hands-down

    * Monitor additional program actions for more thorough protection

    * SmartDefense Advisor automatically adjusts your security settings for maximum protection against the latest virus and spyware outbreaks
    * Includes DefenseNet, an early warning system that gathers data from the ZoneAlarm user community on the latest spyware and malware outbreaks
    * Leverages this vast user knowledge by including it in signature updates that protect your PC from the latest spyware attacks

    Superior Performance & Compatibility
Allows your PC to run quickly and smoothly.

    Windows 2000/XP Users Also Get:

    Privacy Protection

lolololol any free anti virus sucks go with Windows live one care.(http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm) its something like 50 bucks a year, can go on up to 3 ( or 5 i forget ) comps or laptops in your house. you can run scheduled tune ups that check for viruses, defrag and back up your hard drive, and get rid of uesless files. You can also of course run virus scans. its made right by Microsoft so the support is good. comes with fire wall...

ive had it a year and had no problems so far. remember, you get what you pay for.

heres a pic of main screen...

    I voted kaspersky.

well right now i'm testing kaspersky on its 30 day trial and i like it . But that still doesnt tell me how good it is at finding virus because i dont think i actually have one right now. And i dont feel like purposefully finding a virus and putting it on my computer to test it .

and doesnt anyone know of a good free firewall maybe? (except not comodo...i reallllly dont like comodo )

Hm. I tried kaspersky, fucked up stuff on my pc.. Pretty much didn't let me use the internet for some reason and just didn't generally like it so I got rid of it... And the internet is full of free things, you just have to find them

What FEAR said, Zone Alarm all the way.

I found a free key for it, and it has always allowed me to update it over the net. It won't expire until year 2153.

I use Zone Alarm Security Suite on my 2 main computers. Its Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam. I run on dial-up and it actually speeds up my connection because I set security to high and manually monitor my connection. I control every program that accesses the net or tries too.

    @AVG
It sucks now, don't use it!

If your paying get Zone Alamr, best Security system ever. And I said system, that includes like EVERYTHING security for your comp. Trust me it is the greatest. Also Nortan Anit virus is known for its firewall, otherwise ZA is the best.
