    DVD to AVI converter

I'm looking for a good (free) program that can convert DVD's to the AVI format...
I would prefer one that can directly convert the DVD I stick in my drive...but I could also use one that converts that IFO or ISO files, I just think they take longer (...I think). I have DVDDecrypter, it works wonders to make and burn ISO's (I think it got removed from the internet due to copyright stuff or something, at least it was when I looked for an update).
I have AutoGK...which works, but requires you to rip the IFO files...and that takes time, and the AGK takes forever too....

Just thought I'd ask around here and try to get opinions.

    Thanks for the help!

You don't really need to read the other posts, but you should really read the first post before replying

If your looking for something that will change the format into an avi, mp4, etc, etc, the only one I've really found easy to use is iSofter, but you need to buy a license and stuff (I've searched around), Handbreak (free) also works, but I'm too lazy to figure it out. All DVDDecrypter does is change the dvd into an image thats rather useless unless your going to burn it or have some sort of magic reading software. Magic reading software does exist I'm just too lazy to go out and find it.

    google something?
    I've been googling somethings forever
nothing has come up, and I wanted personal opinions of applications that worked well for other users

    EDIT:
lol, I have to say this. I tried Max DVD to AVI converter and it worked great!
...but it made the AVI file 126gb...and no way to edit output size that I could see
    And then I rofl'ed

    Default Another good program

What I am using is this program: Pavtube DVD Ripper.
It is used to convert DVD to many other video and audio formats such as AVI, MPEG, MP4, MOV, 3GP, WMV, 3G2, WMA, MP3, etc.
Its advantage is that it's very easy-to-use.

DVD = MPEG-2 with bitrate max 8000. You can grab the .vob files from the DVD. These are just MPEG-2 files.

Use AVS or Total Video Converter to convert to AVI.

That's not true. You can use DVD decrypter to make it into IFOs. This is a .vob file and in my opinion it is quite good quality. Look for tutorials on how to use it like this one: http://elliottback.com/wp/how-to-rip-a-dvd-a-tutorial/. If you want to convert it, find a converter on google. The quality is still good in avi. Yeah, and it doesn't take very long for me, about ten minutes.
