Default Will Tor work to change your IP ...

... when creating new Runescape accounts? I am planning on starting another army (yes, #3 sigh), but intend to proxy this one. I just downloaded and am running Tor on FireFox .. I intend to use one of the account creators, but wanted to make sure Tor would work first.

Anyone have any experience with Tor and creating accounts? Did it anonymize your IP each time?

(yes, I did search the board and nada came up for Tor, though I did find out about it on here, which is odd .. sorry)

    Thank you!

    Cause it is your ip....

Tor is an onion network that loops through a bunch of other Tor users so its harder for you to be tracked down. But i guess in the context you are thinking of... to jagex yes it will appear you have a different Ip. But in reality your ip will be the same.

Okay I think I understand maybe I need to rephrase the question. I have auto'd two armies and lost both of them - I never proxied on either of them so they were all on the same IP address. If I use Tor when I create this new Army, will they all be created under separate IP addresses so that it won't appear that I just created 10 new characters on my one IP address?

I think that's what you answered with the last part, Hobbit

Yea... they will appear under whichever ip is the last one in the onion network you are connected to..

    Think of it as

You => proxy => Proxy => Proxy => proxy and so on

    So your basically proxying proxies...

I do m'dear, I do! I have no idea how I keep losing these darn things. The last army I lost was done pretty darn meticulously and the only thing I can think to change is running them via proxy.

    TY both very much

Here's another one for you: how do cookies play into this? If I am using Tor, which is giving them a fake IP address .. I still have a cookie? I was able to create 7 accounts and then got the "you can't create this many accounts" thingee.

EDIT: I just blocked cookies from Runescape on my browsers .. so, I will see if that helps. Thank you both again!

    Disable cookies in your browser

In Firefox -> Tools -> Options -> Priviacy -> Uncheck Accept cookies.

Or on that cookies box, choose exceptions and type Runescape's website, as far as I know it will block them from RS then

I think Tor works for Java too, not sure. It works for browsing the internet. It 'changes' your IP by creating a chain of a few computers, and tunneling it's packets through these. That way you have the 'IP' of the last "tunnelled" computer. I do not recall Tor working for my Java, Markus said it worked for his after he reinstalled Java, I think...

I also get email notifications of private messages, though.
