    Default Website Design

Well, for my gcse BCS, i have to create a website for a video store i believe. In my class i seem someone well adept to graphic design, but i don't have any 'real' knowledge at dream weaver, or photo shop compared to you talented people at Srl I am looking for either a guide/person to help teach me to create a really professional looking website, for example Flame Torrent's design or maybe even someone to send me a template. But i would much prefer a guide as i wouldn't want to cheat (strange writing this on this website :P) and would much rather do it myself and achieve something. Thanks to all who read this,

    Alex

lol those are both very good, however im not looking to pay to have one made. I would rather make one myself. And Orbital, yours was very good, i wouldn't say you were owned at all. Is there anyway any of you could help me make a website similar to yours.

    Thanks

Don't triple post, just edit you previous post... and I never said it would cost you anything... I can e-mail you the dreamweaver file... All the formating and tables will be made for you, from there you just change the pictures around... and don't think that image will help that much... unless you want to go the hard way...

i wasnt talking about paying for yours orbital, just that Nicbaz's website is all about 'selling website templates'. But dont worry about sending me file, im looking more for guidance on advanced features such as logins and those other things. But thanks alot for the inspiration

If you want logins your best off making a forum using SMF... They have some pretty sweet skins and it's free... Other than that... I don't see any other reason to have a login...

But it doesn't need to be professional... If your starting off with Dreamweaver in your school, all you really need is hyperlinks and a decent graphic design...

Most professional websites are made through the admin panal of the site... Most programs you can use to make a professional website are just a whole bunch of dreamweaver files that you add onto you domain... and from there you edit your site...

But if this is for school or whatever it is for... I wouldn't put it on the web if your not actually selling DVDs...

i have to make it on dreamweaver and photoshop, but your right, it doesnt actually need a 'working' login. I can just make a picture, not an actualy link. It doesnt go on the real web it dont think but i believe it goes on the school intraweb (or summin like that, so the links actually have to work) thanks for all the help people!!!!

Hmmm... In my school you usually loose marks if you don't have hyperlinks and tables... And you can test what the website looks like on the internet by pressing F12 in Dreamweaver. It Doesn't need to hosted or anything... This is why I've been trying to give you my template, because it's done all the formating for you already and all you really need to do is rearrange the pictures... Doing it all in photoshop like torrent of flame did is actually a lot harder to do and takes up a lot of time...(you will end up all day slicing objects for links) And were you told how to make a website? I'm pretty sure They would of told you how to make a website or what it should have...

    Other reasons for logins:
    CMS!!!
Giving users access to exclusive sections
in this case - online ordering of a DVD?

Most professional websites aren't made through the 'admin panel 'of the site (in fact I'm not sure if any are), they're hand coded, CMS's are normally made for clients (made by the coders), so that the client can do fast and easy changes should they need to.

Also, everyone keeps saying dreamweaver files?! Dreamweaver isn't the holy grail of the internet, it's just a simple program made for complete novices who don't know about web languages, all internet files (html, php, js etc...) aren't specifically made for dreamweaver. It's like me getting a html file and saying it 's a notepad file. They're just the text editors you use to view/edit them.

I think you should learn some html and css then just have a shot at coding the site for yourself, there's a shitload of good tut's out there as well (but imo you'll only need one like w3schools)

    Yeah, give it a shot!

edit - and oh yeah, tables = outdated. div's all the way
