    Default new file from jagex

well i was cleaning out my computer today when i found a new file that was never there before the new update

as we all know they store a random.dat file and a uid.dat file on your computer (unless you use unsigned java) but i found a new one today
    it is called jagex_runescape_preferences.dat

i found it in my users folder which is:
    C:/Users/Thomas/jagex_runescape_preferences.dat

idk what it does just like idk what the other dat files do

mabey its another way of detecting rule breakers or something?

Hmmm... using my near-perfect deduction skills i would say that if you opened this in notepad you would find all your runescape preferences.

yes but i have already opened it up and once again you cant read anyhting inside because it is all weird symbols

plus they might name it that just to confuse you so you think it contains the prefrences but it might do something else

No, its just encrypted. And what's a .dat file going to do? They normally contain flat-file settings.
It cant be run. Its nothing to worry about. And if you do worry about it, your an idiot. No offence

Yes. I noticed this new file too. It's normally situated inside the documents and settings/User/jagex_runescape_preferences.dat.

Presumably it has something to do with the HD version, but to be on the safe side, just delete it for now.

I'm guessing it only appears if you've played the new HD RS, as that would be a likely file that they would store your default fullscreen resolution in.

I say just delete it to be safe such as Wizzup stated.

Thanks for pointing it out though, interesting. Maybe someone will release a new UID deleter with that included. Time will tell!

It's just a text file that can't be run. Runescape uses this instead of cookies, because the new Runescape HD isn't just java (Fraps runs on it, and tells me my framerate, but doesn't on the non-HD version).

And I don't think they can detect anything from it either .

I think deleting files from jageck will trigger something because a normal person wouldn't do that!

    Ugh, you guys are dumbasses.

They SAID in the update that your PREFERENCES for the game are stored on your computer. All the detail settings, things like the music on the main menu is saved, and the HD specific and whatnot options. This is so if you go on another computer it doesnt choke because the detail saved to your character is too high.

    And the fullscreen is openGL.

    All of them besides preferences.
