    Default best media player?

ok so i need a completly independent media player that has to be good...
by good i mean it has to at the least meet my needs, excelent would be that it meets exactly my needs and nothing more.

anyway, i want a player that doesn't rely on sp2 or sp3, can play movies and music (mp3 and avi [codecs: divx, xvid, mpeg3 and 4, and music codecs ac3]).... the best player i have found is called AVS media player, its free and plays all that and then some, generally small, and user friendly. im probably going to stick to it, but if you know a better one, please tell me, im getting tiered of avs because its "lists" options are lame..still good though...thanks

Vlc does everything you could think of.

for playing as well as managing music files, i would recommend foobar2000. it does not eat up system resources and effectively plays and manages all types of audio files.

for video, the KMPlayer is the most lightweight option.

if you want to edit movies, just go to a store and buy Adobe Premier Elements 4.0. It costs about $60 but is completely worth it.

Edit: VLC is good, but it only serves as a player. It does not even attempt to manage your media library.

Vlc is also my first choice, but when I do a playlist it always crashes. Well, if I close the playlist window after I add stuff it crashes. But it will play just about anything. I've only had one file it couldn't play in something like 4 years of use.

    Videolan's VLC for Video's.
    Foobar2000 for music. (foobar2000.org)

VLC owns all, realplayer stinks (adware ftl), quicktime comes with iTunes (CPU hungry plwx) and Foobar is pretty good, but for audio I use JetAutdio.
I made a new script, check it out!.

VLc is awesome to use and download http://www.cccp-project.net/ codec pack with it so you can run everything
General AVI files use DIVX PLAYER
Also Zoom Player ....is quite good with MKV and other files...
