    Default Bitmaps.scar out of date?

I was trying to update an old smelter I made, and noticed that none of the Smithing bitmaps are working for me. Is the entire SRL/SRL/Misc/Bitmaps.scar file out of date now?

I've never really used them before, but I thought I'd give it a try as I updated this script.

I think the axe bitmaps may be outdated also, as SRL's FindAxe failed to work for me after numerous tries. That leads me to believe that quite a few, if not all, of the bitmaps are out of date, like you suggested.

Well, there's really no point in Bitmaps.scar anymore since everything requires tolerance and the bitmaps change as-well

Why not create SRL DTM's instead of bitmaps. Its a lot more work, but would they not last longer?

Maybe DDTMs on record, then use nieslie or n3ss3s's ddtm program to convert them to regular, but keep the DD for editing purposes.

Sorry, forgot who made the program

a ItemDTMs.scar would be great... the most used f2p items would be included etc...

Yeah, it would be epicly useful, but wow at the expanse of actually creating them. Well... someone could write a script to create them... then I'm sure someone around knows how to change the DTM handle to write it out as a string... *cough* Freddy *cough*

Bitmaps only work in highest brightness so make sure you're using that.

Nah, we shouldnt make a database full of DTM Inv Items. People should just make their own...

and yea i think theyre outdated except a few.

Tinderbox is outdated, i know that ;p

Whats the difference between having a database of bitmaps and a database of dtms?

And why do we have it at all?
Can't people just create their own DTMs/bitmaps?

The idea was an updated include with bitmaps of widely used items. So that, when runescape updates, only SRL needs to be updated in order to get the script running again.

AKA, why wouldn't DTMs be a good idea?

Tbh, if we could figure out how to parse DTMs, it would be sweet.

    *Thinks about looking into this*

Yeah, it truly is a great idea.

But, this can be done with DTMs too, and it would - in my opinion - be much more efficient. In addition to the fact that searching for bitmaps takes up MUCH more memory and finding DTMs goes many times faster, DTMs needs less maintenance, since the black outline is constant, and 30-40 tolerance (if not even less) for the mainpoint really should do the trick, so if the color of an item changes, there still is a chance that the DTM works! Even if it doesn't, we still severely reduce the chance of finding wrong objects due to DTMs searching for black outline (thus shape, in some form).

And, I just got an idea.

What if we make DDTMs for the most common objects with same shape but different colors, like armor, weapons, gems, ores, bars, ect, with the input of custom colors? So that we make a function where the user either inputs a name (as a string) or a color (as an integer) and the function finds the assigned object, either with preset colors (in case of 'name' input) or with given color as the centerpoint (in case of custom color input).

    How does this sound?
We all know that there are loads and loads of different objects with very same shape?

I'd be willing to set this up. But, the big pain is.. making all of the DTMs.

Not to mention, it is far easier, and yeah. Just a good idea.

We could use mixter's runtime DTM maker, and maybe use the information from that and place it in Neisle's writer... MAYBE.

I dunno, it would take some time. The functions wouldn't be hard themselves though, basically copy the ones in the bitmaps.scar. Plus write a few simple ones.

Edit: Just modifying a RunTime DTM maker would do this quite nicely. Just make it so it writeln's the SubPoints etc.
