Default What IRC program should I use? How should I use IRC?

Please recommend IRC Clients and give us newbies some tips on how to use IRC. All I personally know is that hexchat is neat & I can say the magic words "slacky slacky slacky" on #SRL to get yelled at, any time of the day.

My favorites are HexChat and mIRC. The latter is not free, but it's quite good, with various features, including a scripting language built in for "advanced users".

You should try to write one in Simba, the IRC protocol is very simple :P

HexChat is my recommendation. On Rizon, get acquainted with the various bots: HostServ and NickServ being the two most important. Know how to operate & communicate with them.

Try creating a channel just to practice with IRC. To do that, you'll need to leverage ChanServ as well so make sure to learn how to use it.

Googling "IRC newbie guide" or something of the sort will probably yield a lot of useful information.

Quassel if you've got a server or pc constantly on somewhere to host the core, then IRCCloud, then Hexchat if you can find a good theme. And there's no point in looking at HostServ unless you want a custom hostname (which is kinda pointless), NickServ is good so you can register your nick and not have to worry about others stealing it.

If you're on android, Atomic or AndIRC are a good bet.

@KeepBotting did you try out relay (elementaryOS) yet? The UI looks awesome!

IRCCloud is also quite nice for mobile (Looks into a BNC otherwise since the constant disconnecting of mobile phones is a huge issue with IRC)

The UI is pretty sweet but it lacks the flexibility/extensibility of HexChat

Ah. One thing I don't particularly like is that with hexchat you can't have a split inside the window for seperate channels, rather, you have to detach it. Might try out weechat or irssi

I use IRCCloud on my iPhone, works like a charm. They also have a desktop IRC client / web IRC client which are both decent. They have paid services but I haven't found them necessary.

If I didn't use IRCCloud I'd probably use HexChat > mIRC.
