I am deeply surprised and disturbed that the Mayor got demoted and I find it pretty hard to believe that he would just leave without any explanation or post about it if it was really just because of some infraction or accidentally leaking a link somewhere. I don't think it's right for someone to just out of the blue (at least from my view and what little info I have) take away dev from the one of the very few red ranks (at least in rs3 and from what I see, @Justin; and @Ashaman88; are the other two) that actively help people out and try to make this community, which at least from what I knew before joining had an image of being somewhat of an elitist and 'screw noobs who do not know how to write an OS' type of place, more open and welcoming.
If the Mayor truly did something heinous to deserve his punishment, surely then explaining it in an announcement post can't be a negative thing at all, in most online forums/companies/groups it's basically mandatory... or if he desired the reason to stay private at least telling us about that wish. Not saying anything will make people assume the worst of both the Mayor and the people that made this decision.
It's outrageous not saying anything. It's like Amazon saying they sacked Jeff Bezos because...you know...he did...some stuff? idk...

That's not for you to dispute. You're the one he leaked it to and it's basically yours and his fault.
Edit :
If he never sent you pictures of something you shouldn't of seen it wouldn't of happened.
Let alone that, you tried bragging about seeing them to me and @Obscurity and of course I told Clarity & Obscurity of that you sent me.
You should take advice from what was aforementioned by fellow members to let it be until we receive an official statement.

I have a fairly good idea. IDK why you're causing a big fuss over it. Perhaps because it was you who sent it to me, trying to put a rift in Clarity and I's relationship with a comment like, "Clarity must be a good friend". It was then you who sent him (Mayor) our conversation. To top it off, it was you who boasted to Lucidity about having SSRL info, even sending him a screenshot, and rubbing it in that he would be Jr for life.
Seriously, drop it. If he or an admin want to post, they will. This thread serves no purpose apart from flame-baiting.
In the end it doesn't matter what anyone thinks as it doesn't involve them, it only involves The Mayor. Honestly flame-baiting each other and having digs is just causing more issues than there needs to be. Time will tell what will happen with Mr Mayor, so just wait for either an explanation or whatever else happens.

Didn't think I'd see this to be unlocked, haha. Time to enjoy some more interesting posts.

- The Mayor For President.
Firstly i thought this community was transparent and open; should a senior member accidentally or purposely leak material to junior members or abroad, Shouldn't this be a decision among the senior members as to the outcome.
Which it appears there has been a great division.
Secondly i have no idea what was leaked; though i would suggest that what was leak would only be a fraction of what "President "The Mayor" has contributed.
Thirdly as such a Senior Developer THE MAYOR is... why should he have to defend or present his version of the event; when this community persist and lives on the back of the few senior developer who have contributed for the past 10+ years.. President Mayor is one of the few.
I’ve decided to make a post to clear up all the speculation and rumours surrounding my demoting. I wasn’t going to bother, but numerous people have requested I do this. I’m just going to explain things exactly as they happened, with a bit of history thrown in to put everything into context. I got demoted because of my opinions. This is my story.
A few weeks ago, a junior member, jonesy259, added me on skype because he needed help with a scripting problem. I get many skype requests each week to help people with their scripts and I did what I normally do, I helped him fix the problem. Jonesy259 found that he quite liked scripting so he ended up helping me fix up and test the new version of GAO I was working on. Earlier this week, jonesy259 contacted me again on skype with some questions about ogLib and one of the members here on the forums, Obscurity. This conversation led to the rule breaking that caused my demotion. Before I explain the details of our conversation, you first need to understand some facts about ogLib.
For those of you that have been half active on the forums recently you will know that Obscurity is the main developer of ogLib; a library similar to SRL, except instead of color, it uses model and texture IDs that are hooked via a plugin. The method of OpenGL hooking is not new, it has been around for a while now. In fact, the first OpenGL development appeared on these forums back in 2010. In 2013 Brandon developed a new OpenGL plugin along with SRL-GLX, an OGL scripting library which he used to test his plugin. However, upon its release 2 years ago it was quickly discovered that there were major problems with this method. Many users experienced a severe drop in FPS after a few hours of run time. Despite Brandon’s best efforts, this problem went unresolved. For this reason, all development on SRL-GLX stopped, and it was never officially integrated into SRL because it would have caused more problems for scripters and script-users than it was worth.
Jumping ahead to late last year, Clarity told one of his long-time friends, Obscurity, about the OGL method of botting. Obscurity came to these forums and started writing some OGL snippets using the same OpenGL plugin that had been used a few years previously. Most of us older members who know the history of OGL were thinking “why are you spending time developing this when half of the users on these forums won’t even be able to use it”. This question was posed to Obscurity multiple times, but he always avoided it. To this day I have still not received a valid answer. Obscurity even admitted to the FPS dropping to 5 FPS for him, until he went and bought an expensive graphics card. The second question many people had (which is actually irrelevant seeing as the first question went unanswered) was why he started developing his own include, when SRL-GLX already existed, and although basic, was largely still functional.
Jumping ahead half a year, the include he was developing was released to the public as ‘ogLib’. As we predicted, some users of ogLib scripts experienced the same issues we experienced the first time around. This release may have seemed like a big contribution to the community, which it definitely was, but during his time here, there have always been ‘hints’ of ulterior motives. Before elaborating on these motives, everyone reading this post will know that SRL is the close-knit and mature community it is today because of the focus on teaching, learning, and having fun. Unlike every other runescape cheating community that exists today, we have never been about commercialising what we have. Everything associated with SRL is, and always will be, free. The more you give, the more you receive, it’s as simple as that. A couple of weeks ago it came to our attention that a script selling business (found at oglib.org) had been established by ‘Team ogLib’. At this point ‘Team ogLib’ consisted of 3 members: Obscurity, Clarity, and Bly. Once Bly had been recruited he later changed his name to Lucidity. Bly has a shady history here at SRL (but we won’t get into that).
Upon learning this I was obviously disappointed as I did not think what he was doing was right. We have to remember that Team ogLib are not only selling scripts that use ogLib, but these scripts also require Simba, SMART, the OpenGL plugins, and the lape language, all of which have been developed, tested and refined by this community since 2006. Yes they are released open source under the GPL licence, which means they can be redistributed, but these are gifts from the community, to the community, to assist teaching, learning, and having fun. It is my opinion that coming to this not-for-profit community, taking what you want, and turning it into a commercial enterprise for a hefty profit is not morally right. It is actually disgusting. This is my opinion. This lead to my demotion.
Let’s jump back to earlier this week when jonesy259 contacted me with some questions about ogLib and Obscurity. Jonesy259 was shocked about the prices for some of the things the ogLib team was selling ($60 for a superheater – 20 lines in OGL) and wanted to talk to talk to me about it. He was interested in the role Clarity played in all of this (seeing as he is a well-liked and respected member of this community). Because I have very strong opinions about the matter, rather than tell jonesy259 what Clarity thought, I showed him. Clarity had posted his thoughts in an SSRL thread (stating he did not agree with Obscurity on everything - the details of which I won’t go into) so I took a screenshot of Clarity’s post, and showed jonesy259. This was the leak. At the same time, jonesy259 was talking in the ‘Team obLib’ group chat on skype. He ended up getting into an argument with Obscurity and Lucidity which caused him to post the screenshot I showed him.
Later that evening I was in the SRL skype chat, and we all ended up talking about ogLib and this script selling business. Obscurity soon showed up, and because I have very strong opinions about this, it turned into a heated debate. Obscurity was essentially saying that he wrote ogLib so it was his right to sell scripts. I did not agree, because he wasn’t only selling treasures that had been developed, tested, and refined by this community since 2006. Could this be one reason why he never even attempted to resume SRL-GLX development? Did he want to have ‘rights’ to something he could sell? Anyway, at some point during this discussion, Obscurity threw in the ‘MAYOR LEAKED’ card. I didn’t think much of it at the time and went to bed soon after.
When I woke up the next morning I checked my emails. One was a PM from an SRL admin explaining that I had been stripped of my SRL Developer rank. Not only this, they had my GitHub access revoked (meaning I could no longer submit code to SRL). They went to every effort to belittle me without actually banning me. I don’t really care about ranks, but taking away my GitHub access, man, I was upset about that. After the 1000s of hours I had voluntary invested into this community, it was all taken away in my sleep. I was shanked in the back by my ‘friends’ while I couldn’t defend myself. Hadn’t I earned enough respect around here over the last 8 years to even tell my side of the story? Nope.
After reading through this thread today I must say thank you to all the people who showed their support. I was not surprised to see Obscurity and Lucidity getting in a few last stabs while I wasn’t around. Even attacking, jonesy259 who simply got caught up in all of this without knowing any better. I have obtained great satisfaction over the years contributing to the SRL include and helping others with their code (maybe why I teach IRL). I am 24 years old, I have spent one third of my life on these forums. Once my GitHub access was taken away it felt like a big kick in the guts. I have lost all the motivation I once had. The desire is gone. I got demoted because of my opinions. This was my story.
I am officially announcing my retirement from the SRL Forums. Long live SRL.
My stance remains the same..
The Mayor For President.
If such developments are being sold is this not an act of leaking? 0.0
I do hope that there is room consideration on both sides of the fence! As something like this will slowly but surely see the end of an active Villavu.
