    absolutely nothin'?

No seriously... i know this is a nub question, but what good is html for? My friend had a really cool looking website for his class president campaign, and I was really impressed by o wmuch coding it must have taken. Then he told me he just used a template, and I was like wtf... if ou can do that with a template what do you need to learn html for?

    Editing the template? :P

/creating something personalised, that you wrote yourself, that suits your needs perfectly.

Well HTML itself isn't something you can make too nice websites out of. That's where CSS and XML and stuff like that come in to play. Oh and knowing some graphical skills help too. Template is just a pre-coded website that you can edit to your own needs. But where's the fun in that? :P

It's almost like copy pasting a script under your own name. Unless you credit ofcourse but big part if it is still done by someone else. Coding stuff yourself ftl =)

Five letters : DHTML. Stands for dynamic html. HTML alone can't be used to create dynamic menus and more advanced stuff. HTML is just the content of the site, but not the appearance. To define the layout of a site, you use CSS. To code the behaviour of a site, you use JavaScript. All this collectively is called DHTML.

    It's been a while... but I'm BACK!!!

HTML is used for making websites. Sure you can be a n00b and use a template but it feels better if you do it yourself. If you want a really nice web site you are probably also going to want to use CSS, Javascript and maybe even XML. CSS is for the designing, (X)HTML is for structure, Javascript is for dynamic content, and XML is for data.

Go to w3schools and learn HTML, XHTML, and Java-Script
The jealous temper of mankind, ever more disposed to censure than
to praise the work of others, has constantly made the pursuit of new
methods and systems no less perilous than the search after unknown
    lands and seas.
