    Default Applying for Members

    Hi,

I would like to eventually apply for Members, few questions.

    - Does your script have to be completely made from scratch? I have a few scripts ive made, some use features from other scripts to make them better.

    - How complex do scripts have to be?

    - Cheers.

Okay so that was helpful. What exactly is considered plagerism on srl? Provided you give credit to people for various parts.

In most cases you should ask permission before using stuff (unless they make a post saying it's good to use whatever). But it's always safe to ask first (and always credit)

Okay, but in the context of srl members applications, what will flag you for plagerism? Provided you have permission etc.

You can use a few functions form people as long as you GIVE CREDIT, make sure you do not claim it as your own, however for a member applications its usually best to write most of it to show off your skills :P

SRLKing makes a good point, for an application, it's typically a minimum of 300 lines that you wrote as well as the recommended knowledge proofs. Although even then, many of us would like to see something particularly impressive and not just the bare minimums thrown in.

Also another tip is to be active around the forums - let the community get to know you.

Dude you knew how to speak perfect English two weeks ago. Please stop pretending you can't make grammatically correct sentences anymore.

I know there is no rule, that's why I didn't report the post.
I'm not going to de-rep you because I thought that asking nicely might work better.
Spelling errors are fine, everyone makes them, the thing I don't like is how you just leave whole words out of the sentence.
I can't make you change though, it's your choice.

Honestly I think this question should never be asked, especially when applying for Members. One of the key factors of the application is to show your knowledge of the include and your ability in a script. If you just make a functioning script with bits and pieces of everyone's work then why would we grant you Membership and not them?

It doesn't matter if you're making a script that does the same thing as someone else's script, what matters is how you make it unique. So that question shouldn't be raised at all to be honest, we want to see your work, not someone else's.

This by far is the best way to go about it. Just be active and receive your jr membership, it will help your tenfold in getting in.
Only a fool would try to apply so quickly

I would gladly, but I don't have an invite lol. I have not yet looked around for skype info if it has been posted...the search feature on this website rivals the accuracy of the mighty god google itself.

Technically, as long as you have permission for everything you use you won't get dinged for plagiarism. But if the majority of your script isn't your own code, you will not be getting in with it, and it'll sour people against further attempts of yours.

A copied function or two (with permission) is fine, for the most part, but I'd stay far away from borrowing any code that could be considered integral to your script. For instance, if you wrote a mining script to get in and you borrowed your rock finding code from someone else, that's not a good sign. When in doubt, write your own version. It'll help you learn more anyway.
