Thumbs down Mass Exodus ... Freakin OSR

Not sure if others have noticed but it seems like there has been a mass exodus since the launch of OSR. My clan has a high tier citadel and now struggles to meet the weekly requirements ... whats worse is the impact on clan chat. We used to be incredibly active and have 40+ players chatting about all sorts of things ... in the weeks since OSR its like crickets and a good day will be 20 or so players .

It seems something similar has happened here as well ... I used to see a ton more discussions in general and specifically around RS scripts but everything has now been splintered with more focus on OSR than current RS. I personally havent tried OSR (too busy trying to max out my current player) but somehow the two different generations need to merge at least on a social level.

Everything else aside I would also feel like an epic failure if I was Jagex and saw that people were more interested in playing the 07 version of a game I had built than the newest version.

Overall there is more people playing EOC still.

Generally 60k or so people on EOC.

    And ~40k on OSRS.

Considering EOC is alot more bot free now. And OSRS Is like ~60% Bots now. thats a decent difference.

But OSRS is still "new" , everyone is playing it while its fun at first, till New skills on rs come out along with rs3. Just been too long of a wait (3 years) between new skills, thus alot of people maxing and getting bored (me)

Yes, there are definitely less people in my clan now on EoC then there were before OSR was released.

I love it. Now I can bot hunter without freaking world hopping for 20 minutes to find an empty hunter spot. I hate OSR so I hope this is going to last.

Thats temporary imo, many ppl will soon grow tired of OSR and start coming back to EOC. If a new skill gets launched, or sth else very significant gets updated, the EOC numbers will start to swell again.

Perhaps if the new skill excludes, completely, combat. But I surely do doubt much will back the crowd from OSR to EoC, between the years of popularity of 2006-based private servers as well as the new combat system for Runescape that a surprisingly mass amount of people truly hated. IMO if anything a new skill will draw in new players or players who quit before, but as for the OSR regulars, I don't see them going back. Time will tell.

I think OSR will die when it starts costing an extra fee to play, that will take out a lot of people when that happens, and it might have a small domino effect on other people quitting because of less players

Thats not gonna happen. Jagex said there will be no fee after September if OSR stays popular. I believe this summer more people will come back to OSR (people who havent played RS for ages).

And because of all the bots, OSR will be guaranteed to have a large playerbase that's on all day, thus keeping the activity level high.

Wait for 5 months, when OSRS membership becomes an extra, we'll see how many people still play.

    Eoc sucks, wot?

Well since you're gonna say eoc sucks, I might as well get on with the common impressions of why people play 07 scape
    - They want jump in the bandwagon of the 'omg 2007 nostalgia', 'my childhood!'
    - Their account stats are garbage in eoc, and think starting 'new' is the best bet for them
    - They actually think that grinding on 07 scape is fun
    - Their friends began playing it, they should join them too

Ridiculous really, cya 07 scape in a few months when the new skill is out.

Mm I wouldn't really agree on the comment that EoC sucks. I personally dislike it because I'm simply not adjusted to the new combat system. The rest of the game is quite fine and the ActionBar especially is a wonderful gift. And of the reasons you listed, Four, I don't think they can compare to the main reason why people wanted an old server in the first place: Runescape without the new combat system; this seems to be the biggest factor as far as I can tell.

I remember reading on multiple communities of certain players suggesting the current Runescape minus the EoC combat system. Now obviously that's not the only factor driving people to switch between the two versions but it's certainly one of the key reasons to why players switched, ya know?
