BRITAIN’S biggest computer games developer has returned to the black after scaling back its American operations and buying out its co-founder.
Jagex, which spawned the online game RuneScape, made a pre-tax profit of £9.8m as revenues climbed to £53m. The Cambridge company, which has changed its financial year, lost £9.9m in the nine months to the end of December 2011.
It fell into the red after spending £3.8m on a partial retreat from America and handing Andrew Gower £7.7m — part of an estimated £75m bonanza for the co-founder.
Jagex, 55% owned by Insight Venture Partners, is now planning a tablet version of RuneScape.
