Default So, I take my HAM Radio Technician test today.

I get to take the first of 3 tests for using a HAM Radio.

Yep. The Technician test, and it's glory of 35 questions pulled from a pool of 350+ questions.

Wish me luck? I'll keep this thread updated to the best of my abilities.

    I passed!

    I also got a radio. It's a KG-UVD1P.

I go to the general class tomorrow, and take the test next month.

I passed! I also got a radio- a KG-UVD1P. It's supposed to be a super awesome radio. I'm pretty excited about it. Once I get my callsign I'll post it so that I can talk to whomever may have their license.

I tried taking that test couple months back. Only 2 people with licenses showed up to give the test and you need 3 in order for someone to take the test. So I couldn't even try :S

I fly FPV (rc plane with live feed to the ground), so in order to keep that fully legal, I kinda need the license.

    Nice one on passing it

Yeah, I'm going to work on one of the FPV planes. There were 4 people there with Extra licenses, so I was able to take the test.

Sucks that you weren't able to take the test. You should try again, and once you get your Callsign, and a radio, we should mess around with it.

Congratulations. There is a HAM radio operator at my school, it seems pretty cool. I should look into it.

If you don't, you'll get fined, put on jail, or both.

The reason is to stop terrorists from using it, or something. I don't know exactly, because we never went over in it class.

But, once you get your license, you get a callsign from the FCC, and then you can start broadcasting.

You have to do things like identify every ten minutes, you aren't allowed to use profanity, or make terroristic threats, because there might be children listening.

There are a couple of things you have to do, but it's fun, even just listening.
