Default How to boost your WiFi signal with an old laptop!

Hey guys, if you're like me, you're most likely upstairs while your router/modem is downstairs. The wifi signal might get a little sketchy in this time, so I looked for alternatives. I've been doing this for a while now and it works as a charm.
    What exactly happens:

A direct Wifi connection from the second floor to the basement results in a 40% signal strength for me. However, a wifi connection from my laptop to the basement results in a 100% signal strength for me.

With Windows 7, you can create your laptop into a router/hotspot.

Navigate to Network > Change Adapter Settings in Control Panel, and right click Properties on your WiFi connection.

Move to the Sharing tab and enable the first checkbox. This enables ICS, or Internet Connection Sharing, which allows your WiFi Miniport to utilize this connection.

Now, click start and type in 'cmd', right click the cmd icon and choose Run As Administrator.

    Next, type in
    Code:
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YOURSSID key=YOUR'KEY
    This should be the result:

Now that that's done, we have to start the network. On your cmd screen, type this in:
    Code:
    netsh wlan start hostednetwork
It should say that the network has started. Now click the WiFi symbol on your taskbar and verify that it has connected to your WiFi name, like this:

And that's it! If you have ANY problems, such as group services aren't enabled, please post here!

Do you have to have wifi for this or can it work with a wired connection to relay into wifi?

That's the result of one of two problems:
    1)
Your network device is disabled. Go to Manage Network Adapters and turn it on.

    2)
Your settings are messed up, and ICS isn't enabled. You'll have to go into your network adapter options and turn it on manually.

I have gotten it to work with a program off TPB called Connectify. It seems to do the trick.
