Default Need Specs for decent computer

ok im doin this as a favor for my mom.. and i need feedback ASAP, like with 3 hours

the computer is only going to be used for basic purposes and occasional internet.. no flashy games, or tons of programs going to be run on it..

i need as many specs on it as possible that will run fairly fast but the least possible price

lookin for specs like ram, harddrive capacity, all that stuff

ps. Home, i am expecting somethin from you

    ok, you should get...

    64mb RAM video card

    1GHz or more CPU ($100 - $200)
    256MB RAM ($30 - $50)
    56k Modem ($10 - $30)
(if using multiple comps) wireless router ($50)
    CD ROM drive ($20 - $40)
    20GB Hard drive ($65 - $100)
(if you dont have the windows CD) windows SP2 PRO ($300 - $500)
(if you dont have the microsoft office disc, if your mom needs it) microsoft office 2000+ ($400 - $600)
    floppy drive (outdated anyway) ($5 - $10)
flash drive ($20 - $30)(if passing info to ppl and front USB ($30))
motherboard with DDR RAM compatibility (recomended and cheapest)($65)

thats reccomended for your mom, if she is using the computer for bussnesses(sp?).
if she was to buy all that without the programs, it would be around $395. not that bad for a good comp.
and to get the computer dude to put it all together... about $50 to put on all the parts

ok... well, anyway, when i started up my computer, it had a critical 'Stop Error'. thats what microsoft said it was... anyway, not a problem.

is it ok to turn off the computer after you are not using it anymore? such as sleeping?

EDIT: i found the problem and fixed it... there were too many virtual drives (from alcohol 120%) and that must of confused 'mycomputer'

There are different distros of linux, so they all look different. If you mom is only getting a pc for buisness (text editing and whatnot), get linux, most distros are free. And screw Microsoft Office, http://www.openoffice.org/ all the way.
