    Default How to setup Simba on a Mac (without WINE!)

    One of the reasons I have not been active here on villavu is the fact that I have a macbook pro. I have tried using WINE only to realize I can only use scripts already written. Well I will teach you how to use Simba on a mac without WINE today!

    Step 1

    First you need a platform to run Simba on. What would be better than Windows itself? NOTHING! So there are a couple of ways to put Windows on a mac. The easiest, in my opinion is using virtualization software. I suggest using VMWare fusion 5. (That is what I use). There are a couple reasons I choose this software.

    1. It is older, so it is cheaper if you want to buy it. (49.99) find it here: https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/inf...are_fusion/5_0
    2. It is able to use virtualize advanced 3d graphics (such as OpenGL for SMART).
    3. It is easy to use.

    However you want to go about getting VMWare Fusion 5 is your business.

    Step 2

    Now you need Windows software. Any version of windows should work (I think?). I suggest using Windows 7. Any version of Windows 7 is fine. I use windows 7 ultimate.

    Step 3

    So you have what you need, and it's time to install windows. This is simple enough. Here is a 4 minute video to guide you through the process. (not my video)

    Step 4
    In order to use advanced graphics you must install the correct graphics driver.
    With Windows open and running select the drop down menu "Virtual Machine" from the bar at the top of your computer screen like so:

    Now choose "install VMWare Tools" (Mine says reinstall VMWare Tools)

    Step 5
    Go to Java.com and download the latest version of Java.

    Step 6
    The rest of the steps can be found in the tutorial by Coh3n. Follow this link:

    I hope this helps anyone having trouble on their mac! Now you have no reason to not write scripts!
    Thank you for viewing!

    If you have any trouble/suggestions comment or PM me.

    Nice tutorial, but you're not allowed to include links to pirated software. Have you tried using VirtualBox? It's completely free and might work just as well.

    I'll take those off right now, and I don't think virtual box allows openGL I may be wrong though. Thats the main reason i went with vmware, plus it is really efficient memory and cpu wise compared to competitors (at least in my experience)

    EDIT: You missed my other link!

    VMware is packed with features that boot camp just doesn't give. It's just the method I prefer and use. You are welcome to use bootcamp if that's what you prefer. I'm sure the process is similar.

    This is for virtualization. Bootcamp boots your Mac into a whole new operating system.

    This runs it in a "box" meanig that you do not have to reboot the computer to switch OS's. Another thing to note is all files are available to both operating systems in Bootcamp. However it can be much harder to install that this way as Mac's are often picky about the windows that they let run..

    This is quicker but will not run as many clients and will be harder on the computer as it will be working harder to run each operating system.

    Bootcamp will be smoother, as you are only running one operating system, but it will take longer.

    Oracle's VM VirtualBox is free and pretty much equal in quality to VMWare's VM...
    It can run side-by-side too (not very useful for our uses, but when scripting/testing?)

    Link if I'm able to post links yet:
    https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

    back when I used virtualbox I THINK it allowed GLI? but I have no idea. sorry for not reading through other posts.

    Hi, i've updated everything I needed to for Simba (this is on a Mac, using the program Wine).

    SRL updated, SPS updated, Extensions updated, Simba client updated.

    I put in the code to run a SMART client, however it is not working and I'm absolutely clueless as to why.

    program new;
    {$DEFINE SMART} // comment this line out if you don't want to use SMART
    {$i srl-6/srl.simba}

    begin
    clearDebug();
    setupSRL();
    end.

    That's the code.

    This is what i'm getting when I try and press run:

    Please help me.

    Either get the plugin from: https://github.com/Brandon-T/libTess...eases/tag/v0.2 and rename it to libTesseract2_32

    OR

    click that plugins menu and then force an update. You could always update your Simba as well.
