    Default Asus laptop sleeps itself!

I'm using an ASUS laptop (windows 8.1) and once every few days/weeks, it goes to sleep itself (when i'm not actively using)
Checked the event log and this is the message:

Already turned auto sleep off at power options (http://puu.sh/bDLdK/704ba4d7e5.png)
I was still running 2 scripts when it went to sleep, and when i resume it, the scripts resumed running.

I checked every single driver and under the Events tab, there's no event that happened for the past few months.
The only thing i can find is this:

but turning off a device should not make the laptop go to sleep so this is irrelevant?

There appears to be many Asus users with this problem:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...5-24b477348d63
    http://superuser.com/questions/48481...puter-to-sleep

The suggestion posted is often about starting in clean mode and slowly debugging starting which app would cause auto sleep, which is not quite feasible as it only happens once every few days/weeks...

As it appears to only happen to Asus laptop i removed most Asus bloatware (power4gear, instant-on etc) and left with only: http://puu.sh/bDLCf/1fae8501c1.png but it still didn't fix the problem.

Any idea what the problem could be, or how to debug it easily?

OEM, no windows 8.1 CD and no product key came with the product.

And I partitioned my drives to merge D drive with C drive, which apparently broke some link to the restore partitions such that the system could not detect them (yes, Asus sucks)

The contents are still inside (could view them with a 3rd party partition manager), so i could work out some solution in the future to fix it so that i can factory reset. But all that is going to be quite cumbersome so i'd like to know if there's an easier solution.
Could reinstall to windows 7 too but i'm afraid of driver incompatibilities, and also 8.1 has slightly better performances in some aspects than win7.

Also, i've never installed those win updates (security patches etc), only driver updates at most

    You can :
EDIT : (just realized you've done this already)

I do believe you can edit the registry values for your computer to sleep, but
I've also looked your problem up, maybe this site has some use to you :

    http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/how-to/wi...in-sleep-mode/

This could be because your Windows isn't registered as well, I really don't know why this is occurring, but I'm trying to help/spread ideas as of why it is.

I also suggest this program for windows 8

If you still need help, add my skype!

    Hope I helped,

It says 'How to prevent your PC from waking up in sleep mode', that's the reverse of my problem?

I already have windows 7 start menu, though i use Classic shell which is much more light weighted than most other win7 start menu programs, but what has this got to do with my problem?

Maybe the lid latch is wonky and it thinks you closed it? Is the fan working ok (the machine is not overheating?).

If you run 'powercfg /energy' from an elevated cmd it makes an html report in c:\windows\system32 (??? nice place for output files). Maybe something in there will help.

I always close the lid when i goes to sleep. I have closing lid action set to 'do nothing'.

It has never happened when i'm actively using the computer (which usually uses much more cpu/ram than when i afk) so i don't think it's overheat problem.

It's useful for navigation. It could be because of the lid, make sure you change the setting when the laptop lid is closed.

Check the BIOS settings for anything about sleep-mode. They could be overriding the Windows settings there.

Your recovery partition isn't stored on the D drive for Windows 8. Merging them has nothing to do with it. There's a separate recovery partition and it's hidden. Also, there is a product key and it's read by the UEFI upon re-installation. You can't really see it without going through lots of work. Your UEFI will read it upon re-installation and booting. It's why it's so hard to dual-boot without turning UEFI secure boot off and using anything other than FAT32.

In the above pic, I highlighted the wrong partition but you get the gist of it.

Most Asus laptops store the "Windows 8" partition on a 20gb SSD for faster resetting and installation; for me and my buddies at least.. There's hardly any ways to access it. You can override it during installation and install via the ISO with embedded key but other than that, there's not really a way to "wipe" the recovery partition without going through lots of work. It's also hard, if not impossible to remove the installation key (read by the BIOS every single time).

If you managed to somehow mess up all of these, you were touching things you shouldn't have been touching :l

Open an elevated command prompt and type (if you want to "see" your key):

    Code:
    powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"
You'll be able to see the OEM key from the UEFI(MSDM table). If it doesn't work (and it should work), you'll need something called "RW Everything | ReadWrite Everything".

I know it's not stored in D drive, but somehow, using 3rd party partition software (i used minitool partition) to modify any drive would break the link to the restore partition.
I googled about that before and a lot ASUS users are facing the same problem after partitioning:
Have you repartitioned that drive in any way since you got it? If yes, that likely broke the link to the factory recovery partition. All your left with now is the basic refresh reset options that ask for your install media. It sounds like Windows can only see the small windows recovery partition. I don't know the answer though as to how you make use of it now.

Either way this is not a pressing issue atm, i might get this autosleep problem even after reformatting because i will install pretty much the same programs and drivers etc.

Ahh I see.. well just in case.. you can still re-install via the ISO with embedded key or you can enter one of those generic installation keys I guess.. If it doesn't already read your bios key. If you absolutely need to.

How do i get the .ISO? use some 3rd party tool to generate it? Also is there a way to create an installation out of my OEM so that i could install it on other computers? (or it wont work because of embedded/bios/watever?) I have the install.wim.

Ok i think i can confirmed that it only happens when i close the lid (similar to this guy's problem: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread...d-quot-options.)
I think that confirms my suspicion that the GPU is somehow triggering a system hibernation if the lid is closed.
This would explain why it happens sometimes, but not always. Though why would GPU overheat when i close lid but running fewer program, compare to actively using and running more program? (it has NEVER went to sleep when lid is opened)
Closing the lid doesn't interfere with GPU cooling, or any cooling for that matter right?

Could also be some Asus bloatware doing mischief so i have uninstalled all Asus program except
    ATK package
which from what i read should not be uninstalled.
