Maybe the lid latch is wonky and it thinks you closed it? Is the fan working ok (the machine is not overheating?).
If you run 'powercfg /energy' from an elevated cmd it makes an html report in c:\windows\system32 (??? nice place for output files). Maybe something in there will help.
I always close the lid when i goes to sleep. I have closing lid action set to 'do nothing'.
It has never happened when i'm actively using the computer (which usually uses much more cpu/ram than when i afk) so i don't think it's overheat problem.
