they should be required to learn code so they can get some logic in their heads too
That and the whole outlet thing for USA outlets
the ground was meant to be on the top so:
if stuff falls on it, it's protected
when you pull it out of the socket, the ground is the last part to leave the socket
it doesn't look like a face and make little kids think they're friendly
yet.. there's "no code" for it so USA puts them in so they look like faces derp rip little kids

Well, yes, there is no code, but... Ground pin down. the text on GFCIs would be upside down if you put the ground pin up. Also, most polarized AC-DC adapters (for phones, routers, etc) are made to sit in a ground pin down much better (im talking about the old, big, bulky ones, not the new, tiny ones.
Also, imo, its easier to plug something in when the ground pin is down. Provided the plug has one, just slightly insert it and rock it upward.
