    Default Simba and windows VPS

so the last thread about this was in 2014 and I don't feel like grave-digging...

anyways, I finally managed to get a VPS ( to try out ) and after setting everything up, threw a level 3 to train some random skill, went to sleep.

woke up and he was still level 1 mining

what happened after testing, is the script stops after I Minimize or close the VPS ( using windows remote )

i've tested and background apps like youtube still play the video when i close the VPS

    anyone have input on this?

Ending a remote desktop session is locking the remote server. Disable that feature and you'll be fine.

:\ it seems all solutions all lead to having to have a physical connection the the VPS in order for bg programs to work..

i was kind of expecting to be able to turn off my desktop and leave the VPS running for me

Have you tried connecting via the 'admin' switch?

    Start -> Run -> mstsc.exe /admin

You might have your server configured to logoff the session one the RDP connection has been dropped

haven't tried running as admin but I just realized how little resources it takes to keep the connection up

( around 20mb of ram? correct me if i'm wrong because I honestly don't believe it takes that little O_O)
although its probably going to eat up my bandwidth

Turn the quality all the way down and you can probably get the network usage <50kB/s.

If you were to use a VNC server such as TightVNC, you can get it even lower by enabling JPEG imaging and turning the compression all the way up.

Will do when I get home, but honestly i'm quite shocked, I thought it'd take up a chunk of my cpu/ram

I'm going to try running a remote from my 10year old laptop and see if it works haha

VNC is very lightweight if configured properly. I have five machines in my house, and one central laptop that I use the most. If I need to access any of the others, I'll connect to them via TightVNC Viewer and start a new X session. Sometimes there's more than one session running concurrently.

If you have a 10-year old laptop that's not being used for anything else, then sure, connect it to a VNC server and just forget about it. It won't disconnect unless you tell it to (or the power/Internet connection goes out).
