I had my hard drive setting on a shelf inside my computer, as I had no spare bays that it would fit in. Every time I loaded a program, it would vibrate, making a huge amount of noise; I eventually fixed this by setting it atop a book atop a sock. The book was to keep the sock from overheating the drive, and the sock was for some cushion.

Basically: If your HD is noisy, either get one of those special cooling enclosures (which usually help reduce the noise), or figure out some other way to cushion it

If you have noisy fans, you might try taking them out and giving their insides a spray of WD-40 (warning: try at your own risk); I'd recommend that you just replace your fans if that doesn't work (they're not much...a couple dollars each)

If your fans are too loud and your system is quite cool, (under 35C) then you can try turning down the RPM on your fans, but don't turn them off, Make sure you watch you temps when you do this to make sure you don't overheat. And always have a shutdown temp just in case.

Also if you have 80mm fans and you can use 120mm, use 120mm instead, 120mm use lower RPM creating less noise.

Had this problem. Open your hard drive and clean out the fans with a hoover and old toothbrush gently

Try at your own risk, but it does work very effectively

That's EXTREMELY risky, I don't reccomend doing that.
If you do, be sure to make a backup.
I made a new script, check it out!.

    whats wrong with that?
every so often i open up my computer and vacuum up all the dust, thats probably the reason its lasted this long (4 years) and served me so well

Your supposed to clean your cooling system every 3 (or 6) months, it's not harmful, it's very good for your computer.. My old computer overheated, and like blew-up because my cooling system was so dirty, and it had never been cleaned.

You can put olive oil in your fans, it's a very clean oil so it works way better that any other. Also if you always run your computer the fans are less likely to start making noise. Kinda sounds weird but it's true.

well first thing, dont ever use any type of lubricant that isnt electrical grade ielive oil,

    noisy fans
your best bet for a noisy fan is to either buy a fan controller or make one yourself as playing with voltage options through the os(is kinda stupid in my opinion)

if its your hard drive, thats some pretty tough beans, unless you buy one that does less rpm's i dont think its gonna get any quieter.

cpu fan, only thing that i would attempt to do about the fan is buy a newer one that produces less decibles.

and if its your power supply fan, id take the power supply out, take the finger screens off of the fans and vacuum the blades off.

and just a fyi, if you arent an expirienced with electronics, do not open up your hard drive case ever, as you can seriously damage the platters or the needle.

edit:: ok, another solution is to buy a newer case, preferably an advanced mid tower because the case gets rid of the sound better,

Ok, don't trust my idea. Fixed my computer because it doesn't leave behind that black shit that motor/electrical oil. And you only need a drop.

check to be sure no wires are touching a fan. i have a $2,000 gaming computer and it was noisy as hell, so I opened it up and it was that simple, a wire drooping and touching a fan, made a loud ass clicking noise.

A hard drive is extremely sensitive. And they don't have fans
If you meant computer case, I recommend that too

Well if your opening up your case don't forget to wear an anti-static strap that's hooked up to the grounds. Static can stuff your computer at 25v and you can't feel static till 1000v.

Oh crap, Sorry to bump a three day old topic but this is VERY important.

Sorry to say but NEVER use a vacuum on a computer!!!!!!!!!

They can create a static charge from the moving of air and particles in contact of the plastic.

ALWAYS use compressed air! Its much better.

I'll tell ya what i do...when my computer gets really noisy...*trust me this works* i run out to my shed...and grab a big sludge hammer, and gently set it down outside. Than i grab my computer and throw it threw my second story window and let it hit the ground, dont forget to unplug it first. Than i take mighty swings at the computers middle, making sure that i get a good solid hit on it. And after that i dont hear anything coming out of it, it seems to work for me and i've only had to go through 3 computers. Might want to give it a shot.
