    Default Lakes 'n stuff

    Hi all,

I went hiking yesterday with some family in Rocky Mountain National Park and caught some neat pictures of a couple of the high elevation lakes up here around timberline. The view was really gorgeous so I thought I'd share a few of them here for any fellow outdoors-men. Believe me when I say the pictures don't do them justice.

^ Making our way up to the lakes.

That's Dream Lake. It's at about 9,900 feet and just below timberline I think; I'd have to ask Grats, he would probably know more than myself.

Emerald Lake at 10,100 feet elevation. Something interesting about these two lakes is that they're both glacier-fed, along with the streams running down the side of the mountain.

A bit of comparison of the distance from Emerald Lake to Hallett Peak. You can see where the trees stop growing.

Great pics! Reminds me of somewhere I've been.. maybe Glacier National Park.
What was the temperature when you went? How long was the hike?

I really need to do some hiking around here before it gets too cold.

Thanks guys. I had to scale down the pictures quite a bit to make them fit.

I think it was a bit over 60°F when we arrived at the trail head. I'd say 45-50 at Dream Lake and maybe 40'ish at the top. We only spent about 10 minutes at Emerald Lake before clouds rolled in over the peak and we got rained out, the whole way down. I'm unsure how long it was, I didn't check the time, but I'm sure no less than 2 hours of actual hiking.

Bruhhhh that looks sick! I've never gone west but you're tempting me with photos like this.

I 100% believe you about photos not doing it justice; they never seem to capture the magnitude of the heights and depths.

Did you drink the water/ go for a dip?

Nah I didn't but that'd be a good idea to take a sip just to say I did. Far too cold to jump in.
