Default Websites Crypto-mining instead of advertising

Not sure if you guys have ever come across this issue but recently, I came across more than 10 sites mining coins through my browser because apparently ad money isn't enough.. Showtime and PirateBay has been caught doing it as well.. Recently a site I used to watch movies on started doing it (causing my CPU to go straight to 100% usage until I killed Chrome Tab/Task):

I could only block it by adding the site to my hosts file and of course using no-script and ublock origins. Other methods of blocking it caused the sites to not function properly.. Anyone else come across these?

Same.. fixed the issue by uninstalling Google Chrome & cleaning up my laptop with programs/extensions I did not intend to have.

I think it would be reasonable if they didn't make it take up 100% of our CPU usage, maybe capping it at 50%? Not sure but I like the idea if it were implemented a lot better lmao. Gonna have to install NoScript again for now I guess.

I was wondering why I got 100% cpu usage on some sites, this might be it. Very annoying.

Well guys.. recently, none of the blockers and techniques I used previously works..
I looked into it and the currently blockers work by blocking the "coin-hive" script domain/url.. If it is hosted locally, it blocks by script name. This is obviously a bad technique but used to work. It no longer does.

So.. I created an open source extension for Chrome that blocks via domain/url AND by signature/keyword scanning: https://github.com/Brandon-T/CoinBlocker

Currently I disabled the options page. Future updates will allow you to enter your own signatures/patterns.. Toggle on and off, etc..

So if a script contains code to mine on your computer, it will be unloaded/blocked. I just uploaded it to the Chrome store. Will post a link to that later when it gets approved.
