    Default New Computer?

My computer is about 2 years old, and it's getting slow.
I've reformatted twice and I dont notice a speed increase.

I do have Vista, 1GB RAM and plenty of HDD space.

I think it's just old computer syndrome with my crappy pentium IV.

    ~

I really wanna upgrade to a new duo core/(quad core?) with RAM that is 240 pin. Mine is still 184 or something, so they aren't interchangeable.

    What do you think?

Well I wish I had your "old" computer lol. Cause it's better than the one I have right now.

And if you have the money to buy a new computer, then I say go for it.

Hmm, i don't think you need a new computer for sure.

Have you tried opening up your case and blowing out all the dust inside of it? Get a can of compressed air and blow it all out. Dust can cause slow downs due to overheating.

Get rid of Vista go back to XP. If you don't want totally get rid of vista do a dual boot of xp and vista (Vista partition and XP partition) Thats how I run except I have 98, XP Pro, Vista, XP Media center, and ubuntu. (1TB Drives FTW)

Oh and vista kinda sucks, You can't do anything with it yet and microsoft is molesting you from behind.

    Give it to me Abby
The reason it is slow is because you are running Vista... UPGRADE to XP.
It is probably slow because 1 gb is nothing for Vista, I recommend atleast 2 gb.

If you do get a new computer, then use your "old" one to install Linux

How do I get back to XP? I am NOT buying it... And where can I find a safe download of XP without crap on it?

Also, how can I get Xp and VISTA to dual boot, and choose like a menu?

Nope, but for now here is what I'm doing:

Using a PCMag guide to creating a new partition with windows vista disk
Install TinyXP from my CD on the new partition
    Set XP to boot default
Use Vista when I need to, for games, etc.

Alright mr.klean I added you, I also downloaded a torrent from The Pirate Bay, but I don't know if it's clean. I downloaded it right as an ISO so I'm not infected... yet

Anyways, just for kicks I looked at computers on Best Buy.com and OMG:
    Acer 4400 Desktop - 2gb ram, 320gb hdd, vista +more
    HP Pavilion 5000 Desktop

The acer is 530 and thats like 500 dollars cheaper than my current one was.

Also, which is better: Intel Core 2 Duo, or AMD Athlon X2?
Intel seems more expensive, but is it that way because it's better or is it just more expensive. I know that Core Duos < Core 2 Duos, but are AMD Athlon X2 < Core 2 Duos?

Thanks for the help - I'm getting XP set up as we speak (had to download it)!

Intel for Work / AMD X2 for Play

    I have an X2. I love it. Had it for a couple-few months...not any slower. It's great =]
