    Laptops.

Hey there, currently i cannot auto overnight. This is because the pc is in my sisters room and she can't sleep with it on. I have a few simple (noobish) questions about laptops.

    1. What would be best to buy for autoing.
    2. The specifications of wireless broadband.
    3. Can wireless be used with the pc off?

    Thanks in advance.

Prolly even DSL will work, or even dial-up. Just speed is nice to have.

Try autoing probably 8 hours at a time, and no more. Or maybe 20+ hours every 3 days or so. When your not using it turn it off, or put it on stand by.

They overheat easily. :[ That sort of varies too though, if your computer has a nice processor and ram(1gig +), overnight/days is k. You would only need to worry about your monitor.

If you hear the fan struggling, and the it's emitting a lot of hot heat, (than normally). You know, you better stop. xD

Well i dunno how well wifi is in laptops like the built in stuff. For my desktop i had to buy a bigger aerial. Cost me 50 NZ which is like 25 usd around about. And well any laptop will probably do. It doesnt take alot to run runescape.

get something reliable like a Toshiba or Dell, get one of those fans so it won't over heat, and DSL is fine.

Wrong, DELL scuks, get a good computer... Just look at the specs. You usually want high numbers...

If you wanna auto overnight, I suggest getting a desktop instead. Laptops are always overheating, so if you keep leaving it on overnight it will eventually die

I fried one USB port of my laptop 'cause it overheated. Other than that, it still runs as fine as when I bought it 3 years ago .

    It's been a while... but I'm BACK!!!

runescape only really needs 1-3 kbps, but you need a good ping. Macroing uses a good amount of CPU for some scripts so get something along the lines of a core 2 duo. Oh, and why don't you just turn your computer's screen off? There's usually a key on your computer that lets you, or a key combination like FN + whatever (there's even programs which will turn your screen on and off with the power of a hotkey!

The internet I use is an ADSL Business standard connection with downloads up to 800kbps, it is amazingly fast, great having an IT uncle letting me use his wireless router (he gave me the key). I recently bought laptop from dell, they have very good value I must say, also google search for dell coupon cards for there inspiron notebooks.

If your just going to use it for macroing, and nothing more, you won't need much. Look for something along the lines of 1.5ghz, 500meg ram and a inbuilt graphics and sound card, and most laptops come with a internal wireless. You'll be able to get one from a used computer store, just format the HD a couple of times and then run from linux (ubunto is a good distro, and since RS will work on any distro which uses java, your home free) and get a program called "wine", it'll emulate windows for you so you can load SCAR up in wine.

It's cheap, but it'd take a bit of setting up (20 minutes ish) but theres lots of guides about how to implement wine and linux and things.

    Hope this helps

Well...I believe that laptops are just as good as desktops when it comes to macroing....actually any fast computer with an internet connection would be fine. My laptop (ASUS F3sV-B1 with 2GB of ram and intel turbo cache) can run any program incredibly fast, including SCAR. My computer came with a wireless card built in (it's compatible with wireless a/b/g/n) and I have absolutely no problems connecting. Oh and :
No matter how much I change settings my laptop goes blank when I close the lid.
that's because the laptop is set to go into sleep mode when the lid is closed (at least this is what my laptop does). If you want to auto overnight and not worry about it, go into your screen saver settings and set the 'sleep mode' to never and the 'turn off monitor' to 1 minute. This way your laptop's screen will go dark and you can sleep easier ! btw, I always have my laptop plugged in so that when I auto I won't run out of battery . If I can think of anything else to fill you in on, I'll let you know.

Even if the PC is off, the modem/router keep working.
