Default Help me before I go insane

Recently one of the svchost services is taking up 50% CPU usage on my computer, according to the task manager. When I close it, about half of the running services close as well, making my computer soundless and internetless. Anyway, I can't pinpoint what the exact problem is because the svchost is loading so many services as well.

I download WinPatrol, then systematically closed every single service related to svchost. Result - no drop in CPU usage. This is driving me insane. I've done 2 virusscans, antispyware/adware scans, and everything in between. I've run system optimizers, registry cleaners, defragged, EVERYTHING!! but the problem just won't go away. Is there anything else I can do short of reformatting?

P.S This only started happening after I downloaded a theme from AlienGUISe (WindowsBlinds from Alienware) then attemped to change back to the default XP theme from within AlienGUIse.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

The thing is, I deleted the theme and all traces of the program from my computer, but it's still stuck at 50%

Try turning of windows update.or right click on svchost and lower its priority.

edit:i used to have this problem too, after i ran a high spec game and closed it, svchost was always using at least a bit more cpu than the game, i think the point of svchost is to stay on top and keep a virus from taking over the computer.
Another reason why win 98 and linux are better than xp.and why Mozilla is better than ie

Sometimes this happens, just wait <1 hour and your PC is back up to full speed, and SVCHOST is at <10 cpu again. It is agnoying, but there is no real fix for it yet, except for Linux.

Err... search for a RAT (Remote Access Trojan). Nasty little buggers they are.
The jealous temper of mankind, ever more disposed to censure than
to praise the work of others, has constantly made the pursuit of new
methods and systems no less perilous than the search after unknown
    lands and seas.
