    Default Trying for SRL Member

First a little bit about myself:

I'm new to the SRL community and I'm very impressed with it. I was a scar user in the past, back when Kaitnieks was still around. I wasn't one of the best scripters or anything like that, but I did some stuff and it was fun. Around the same time kaitnieks left I made quite a few bots for neopets and random other games I found. (Breakout is a cool, simple one that I liked). However, runescape was out of reach... too many new randoms to deal with alone and not enough will power.

Since then I have also done quite a bit more formal programming. PHP, C# .NET (ASPX and windows forms)... I'm majoring in Computer Science and I believe a lot of my passion for the subject was due to SCAR and the fun I had programming stuff.

Anyway, back to the original matter at hand...

I know very little about SRL (although I can read and there's a load of information on this site) so I am going to try and re-learn some scar stuff and develop a script to submit for the "Apply for SRL Membership". I'll keep you posted on my journey to becoming a proper scripter. (More for my motivation than as any benefit to you... although it may help some other hopefuls too)

Does anyone have any ideas for stuff I could make? I'll of course have to wait until SRL is updated (I haven't even seen any SRL scripts in action)... but I have to get an idea of what I'm going to do first anyway :P

    Until later,
    Light

    Update on my quest:

I've been reading the tutorials on DTMs and DDTMs and have been playing with a lot of DTMs in Al Kharid. I'll try creating a DDTM next.

Unfortunately my DTMs haven't been very reliable. However, they're getting better as I keep trying them. I have a feeling using some of the ideas off of the DDTMs will help improve reliability as well.

No sense of a completed script at all. However, I feel like I'm starting to pick some of the stuff up.

Thanks again to all those who have supported me.

    Thanks dvdcrayola,

I'm sure it is a lot of work! At least it's enjoyable work.

I appreciate the support and the offer. Hopefully one day we'll both be members and helping to advance the SRL community!

Hmm, I'm not sure. I've been looking at the "script requests" and the "first scripts" forums for ideas, but I haven't found anything that has stood out yet. I'm open to ideas though.

The only restriction is that it has to be something non-member.

I would recommend a power-something for your first script. But if you do use that idea, you're going to have to make a lot of pesky functions, so be sure to read up on your tuts.

It's probably too late to join now, so next time the scripting competition comes around, I would recommend you to join that to sharpen your skills.

Welcome and gl with your plight. SCAR is really very easy and i'm sure if you can code in C# then SCAR should be a breeze. All I did was read a few tutorials over the weekend and then started my script which was when i really learnt most of it. Remember the help section is your friend

    Welcome.
You need some idea's? Do something that walks, like a miner/woodcutter with banker. It surely boosts the yes votes in your app.
I made a new script, check it out!.

Walking is a bit tough for someone's that just started scripting...especially with all the failsafes that are needed.

I did walking, because it only needed like 3 radialwalk's to get to where it needed to go XD.
I'll prolly try for member with my banana quester when its perfected.

I was thinking I might try for an Al Kharid Smelter. It doesn't involve too much walking, but just enough to be interesting. I also noticed there wasn't a very popular/perfected Al Kharid Smelter in the free scripts section. Is this because of difficulty level?

yeah that would be good because you could possibly walk with just using symbols which is substantially easier than Radial Walk. Plus there would be a need for DTM's and banking. good choice and gl

My opion to any one who is going for SRL members would be do something that is original, yet useful. I would put my life's savings that the Devs or who ever reads the apps sees plenty of Power choppers and Miners, but something that has a little snazz to it would stick out to them. I won't tell you what to do because I myself am working on a script to apply with.

PS: Would we be allowed to post our script that we apply with once it is done its proccess?

From a personal point of view I say avoid the powerchooper/powerminers. Like Talis said we say alot of them, and making one is probably going to harm your chances. Try to find something original like that al kharid smelter. The most difficult bit in that imo is going to be the door opening. However don't let anyone put you off by saying its too hard. Give it a go and if it is too hard then you'll know your limitations for the moment. Also a great way to learn is to look through other peoples scripts and look at their scripting techniques and how they did things.

    Good luck ^^

Rofl. A power something would be good for a first script but i wouldn't try to apply for members with it.

Scar is just pascal. And pascal is, in my opinion, the easiest language to learn. Good luk
