    Default Forums and Hosting

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if some of you could help me out you own your own forum / have your own hosting.

I was just wondering what type of hosting you have, where you bought it from, and if you would recommend it or not. A friend of mine is looking to host a big website with forums and I just wanted a quick run down on what you guys would recommend.

Also, what other forum types am i missing?
    • vBulletin
    • SMF
    • phpbb

Any others you would recommend me to check out?

    Thanks a lot

Where do you want the servers to be? i go http://www.hostingdirect.co.nz/ and you could even go reseller plan. Its probably still as cheap as alot of hosts. YES there are 1$ hosting stuff out there. But you definitely get what you pay for. Pwnd has hosting company? http://www.orlyhosting.com/

Depending on how good your friend is at web stuff. Sometimes it pays to pay a bit more for a small company that has nice workers who can help you.

IPB, thats another. I can't give any buying experience, but IPB seems pretty secure, as a mod for a very large forum, if I remember, was only hacked twice.

I have always used Proboards it is really user friendly and has a huge support forum, that is a lot of help.
EDIT: although I am not sure if you can host yourself.

I use netfirms. Got an awsome deal on a limited offer. $10 a year lmao. I think you might still be able to do it. One sec.

http://netfirms.com/max The page is still up, not sure if it still works though. Worth a try. Customer support is also excellent.
