Default Thoughts on starting scripting (where to begin)

    Hi All,

I am intending to start scripting very shortly, and being a programmer for a living feel sure that I will get the hang of it and be able to contribute some good stuff.

Have had a little look at some scripts there is a lot to learn.

My question is to some of the guys who are really good. If you were learning now would you

    a) Try to write a script that worked from start to finish.

    Or
    b) Begin by writing some very small scripts that just do simple things. For example.
    i) A script that goes to the bank and puts your inventory in.
ii) A script that goes from the bank to a place of interest.

and so, with the intention of having managable chunks that can be pieced together later.

And what are the main concepts to understand?

first i made a inlogger (when i was a noob)

then i made a 'bone pick and burry'er' wich was a lil more advanced.

then i made a simple power miner

then i updated my power miner to a mine and banker

then i updated and updated and updated it

    then i made a PestController

and now i'm here, making (togetter with 'rikjess') a guild miner =]

[hint] start simple, reed much tut's and keep on challenging yourself.

    Good luck!

Yea start small and get the repetition down of how the script is set up. You will understand that after you make all these small 'chunks' that they will fit nicely into your next scripts. Pretty much the concepts are:

Make procedures and functions, and then have them in your mainloop that runs your script. Therefore walking procedures are interchangeable between scripts ect...

good luck and i hope this helped

    guys,

thanks for some much response, so quickly.

I kind of think along these lines myself.

I code very much along the lines of
    1. Code simple routine
    2. Test
    3. and repeat 1 & 2 above until you have a program/script.

I am itching to have a go - but I can't at the moment. i am studying for an exam on the 10th October and I really want to pass. But come the 11th I will be having a real go at this.

Am quite optimistic at being able to do some reasonable stuff, as I already know around 12 computer languages, to varying standards I admit.

Again, thx very much for the help and to MasterKill - your list is useful, I may follow it as a learning process (and your English seems fine, also)

You grave digged this, sorry if you didn't know. He posted about this around 6 months ago...

I'm guessing it worked out for him and he got in with some scripts he made.
