whats the speed?
1) Dells are all junk IMO. I wouldn't use one on a day to day basis if you paid me.
2) You can't just multiply dual core speeds like that. Few programs can fully utilize the full power of a dual core processor. More cores are better for running vm's though.
3) Vista is a memory and processor hog. Depending what you run, you'll be using one sixth to one third of your memory with only your host os, which will leave you just over one gig of ram for your vm's, assuming that you don't run any memory hoarding programs (anything adobe, p2p, firefox, games)
4) Lets say you can run a tinyxp vm with scar and rs on a 800mhz rig. Completely ignoring Vista, your max amount of vm's will be four, and that will leave you no power for Vista.
It comes down to this: You might be able to get four running. Maybe. If you want to do anything...I'd say 2 max.
If you want to squeeze in an extra one (maybe even two), install TinyXP as your host OS. Make a second partition, and you'll be able to use Vista when you're using your computer, and TinyXP when you're autoing.

what if i was to use windows xp pro and have the same specs or maybe run some linux with vms
The situation will remain the same just change vista to winxp or linux which ever came 1st
i have a Intel Quad Core and 3gb of 800Mhz memory upgrading to 4gb as soon as my stupid Asus P5N-E SLi can support it but yup im running 4 VM's with 300mb each perfectly i also have vista ultimate, im at 80% CPU Usage and 75% RAM usage so i am very well sure that there is no way you can handle 10 vmsi would say you can run 5, but even with 5 expect your computer to be very slow because of CPU Usage will be at 100% all the time but ram usage will be at 70%
ya i know alot about computersi built my own so if you got any questions feel free to ask me
again what about if we all use tinyxp as host and tinyxp as client. Chaos can you calculate the fact?
One more thing: If you have 4GB of RAM, then it will not work under regular Windows XP or Vista. You need to get 64bit version, because 32bit will not detect 4GB of RAM.
thats a lot of ram
omg, imagine a chinese workshop full of 10 computers running 100 bots lol..think of how much geepees thatd be
okay if someone could please tell me good specs to run 5vms and the host machine which would probably run microsoft word
I'm planning on buying a 3-3.2GHz Quad Core CPU and 4Gb of 900MHz ram next year.
How many do you think I could run then?
I got hp mediacentter 8100 + vista
3gbram
Athlon g4 x2 dual core 5000+ 3.60ghz
How many VMs i can hold if i use MS Virtual Pc 2007?
Adn how much one vm take computer pver resources?

well vista is really a big ram eater so maybe 3 with that always go with windows xp for macroing
Do NOT get Vista Mark... Only regret of my new comp is that its Vista. Ex: Yesterday I just got done downloading the like... 15th "Security Patch" ive been sent. I chose to wait 4 hrs before being asked if I wanted to restart my comp again. So... 1 hour later the msg pops up, I chose to wait longer since it had only been an hour. Like 3 minutes later my comp crashed -.- & I didn't have vary many programs running.
Also: Running Vista Home Premium (3k MB of memory, 400 GB hard drive), IE, virus scanner & a few other small things takes up about 30% of my CPU Usage

yes i am getting a vista but i will downgrade it to windows xp pro so i have vista when i get tired of srl
Well I personally would just get a fast quad core and designate which cpu to use for each one. Oh and make sure its XP pro/linux because vista is shit.
On my duel core laptop I can run 3 VMs while playing another FPS (XP pro). ONLY because I have designated VM to use only cpu 0, and the main computer use cpu 1. On a regular duel core you could probably run 6 VMs like this 3 on each cpu, but nothing else thats all it could do.
Todo anymore then 8 VMs would take a double to quad Opteron setup. With a Quad Opteron setup I could easily see 40 VMs on it depending on which type of cpus you have in it. Note the standard Quad Opteron setup is 8-16gb of ram, and 2-4 duel/quad core, 64bit processors AKA a server. And yes they are very expensive to make.

Summer = me busy, won't be around much.
i just saw this thread thought ide post my specs.... ok i have a peice of crap computer...
512MB RAM
Pentium M processor (for laptops)
processor - 1.5GHz
integrated gateway graphics accelerator
1000 X 700 resolution
My computer sucks... i can barley run 1 VM with 130 ram set for it.
how are you going to run so many vm's with the same ip address? That would defeat the purpose of autoing, please let me know how you are getting differnet ip addresses for each VM!
