Anyone here who has played wow knows that that has an open auction house with no minimum price and the same goes for eBay therefore its obvious that prices wont sink, there will be people who sell the odd item for less than it should be but lots of people will go for the average price...
    The truth finally came out...

I'm not sure how this is going to work, maybe like ebay with a reserve price?

Those of you saying the economy is going to collapse need an economics lesson. Just because prices go down does not mean the economy is collapsing, it just means there is greater demand and a greater supply. Whats going to happen is the price is going to go down in the beginning but it will not be a downward spiral it will just reach a new equilibrium point and then 2 months later everyone will just be like "Damn, remember when dmeds were worth 2 mil?"

Ebay makes you pay them to host your products.
Assuming the Grand Exchange works the same way...
They have made it very clear where cheaper things can be found, relative to the shops. Therefor, you will find the cheapest items on the streets, and the more expensive, but still less than the shops, in the Grand Exchange. I don't think it's that hard to see that Jagex just set a maximum price and an average price.
But yeah, I didn't think of it that way.

Haha@ nielsie. O im sure they will find a way.

And im fairly sure fawki is right. Not that it will collapse. But that prices will plummet. It will be a one stop shop for everything. And you are pretty much guranteed if you put your goods up there for a cheap price that it will be sold. So why would you bother going for a high price. High prices only really worked when either a. people are desperate or b. you are selling a tonne of them and people dont mind paying a bit more. But both these are negated now. First being that there are tonnes of them in the great exchange so no one will be desperate as you can go there and get one straight away. And secondly. Amounts dont matter anymore. It will only be slightly slower to buy 5 lots of 1k coal for 180 each as it is to buy 5k coal all at once for 200 each

I mainly think that things will stay the same overall. Sure, the first few days may be hectic - but it might even out later. Jagex might implement a system to keep f2p discouraged from selling there.

The thing I like best is being able to merchant without moving.
The jealous temper of mankind, ever more disposed to censure than
to praise the work of others, has constantly made the pursuit of new
methods and systems no less perilous than the search after unknown
    lands and seas.

Maybe this is Jagex's way of tackling price inflation?

In my opinion, sell all your accumulated goods now to be on the safe side. Eventually, (prob. 1 -2 months), if all goods become cheaper, people will make less money and less money circulating=more expensive rsgp prices.

Forums will be like pointless now (betcha they'll figure that out soon and then make the exchange members only...)
auto merchanters will need a total change now! and mine was nearly complete!! will there still be any merchanting? because if it is as fakawi says all items will be selling for the same price, who would buy 1k coal for 200k if they had coal for 150 right next to it?

Any script that collects and banks in varrock might want to sell it to the great exchange?

Merchanting will still exist but not in Varrock. A lot of people are too lazy to travel to a different city or need the goods right away. I am sure you will still be able to buy/sell coal in Falador next to the furnace because not everyone will want to walk to Varrock, buy the goods and then have to walk back to Falador. Also, merchanting in the sense of buying real low at the great exchange and then selling for more somewhere else. (Lobbies for real cheap at the great exchange, then selling near pk border or so for inflated price)

Maybe they do it to check where the (autoed) goods came from. Its much more efficient tracking (autoed) goods from a centralised storage

If the economy crashed in runescape, they could easily recover from it. It isn't real life, so they can just reset everything.

I think we should do something about this... There is a yew tree nearby and if someone made a bot that cut the yews and sold them to exchange for lowest offer. We could get yews down to a pretty cheap price...
