    Default Proxy/ Ip Change

I was just looking around the forums and I keep coming across people talking about making proxys or something and changing their IP address. Can someone explain to me what exactly a proxy is? and if changing your IP address is even legal? I would also like to know how to change your IP address if someone has a link or a thread on it. This could definitely come in handy for me in the future.

Yes, changing your IP address is perfectly legal, just google it and you'll find a ba-jillion programs that do it. Proxys are also perfectly legal, if sometimes used for shady purposes. A proxy allows you to connect to the internet with a higher form of anonymity, used in legal cases to stop hackers or the like from finding you. This could also be used to, say, go to a forum that your IP address has been banned from, because proxys don't use your normal IP address. One of the easier/better proxys I know of personally is Ultrasurf, which opens your default IE, but with a good proxy to let you go anywhere(like if your office/school has a web blocker). If you have anymore questions, just post again or PM me.

hmmm.. Well tyvm for the help and I now understand how to change my ip but the only problem is every proxy I try either does not work at all or is EXTREMELY slow. Is there any really good proxy out right now that I could use?

I've got a DSL connection, and whenever I reset my modem, my IP changes; so, if this works for you, it will be a lot easier than going through a proxy.
