    Default Spelling Bee

Well, this has been haunting me for a while but...
    My god...
On Wednesday I have to go up in front of approximately 900 people at the minimum and do this freaking spelling bee. I wouldn't be in this crap in the first place if our english teacher wasn't taking the thing for a grade, but now this? This is ridiculous! I'd skip school again except I've used up all of my absentee excuses, and I missed half of last week.
Any ideas on how I can get out of this nonsense? C'mon, 3 days of ideas, a buttload of people, help me out of this!

I've already tried convincing my parents to pick me up early, but they expect me to fail in front of...ugh...

My brother's band teacher told a story about a trumpet player who rigged his car to run over his middle finger to break it so he wouldn't have to play a solo for a concert.
Bodily harms is a little extreme though. You can always tell them you refuse to do it, they can't make you, but I doubt you'll be willing to loose the points. Especially with the end of the quarter coming. Faking sick is too overused to be plausible... Hm, this is tough.

If I were you I'd just do it. I mean, everyone who has the teacher will be doing it right? And who is going to be watching that you care about anyways. If you're humiliated, then everyone up there is, it's not like you're being singled out.
But still, I'm always really stressed out when I have to do public speaking like that. I'd still say to just cringe and bare it. You get points just for showing up right? You don't have to study for it or anything, just don't look like a idiot.

I know, how about you 'get sick' at the spelling bee. If you get sick at home and you're absent you'll probably just loose the points. If you get sick there and complain to the teacher, then she might be like, "Oh, ok, I understand, I can't make you go out there after throwing up in the bathroom. I'll let you get the points another way." Maybe?

Lol, no wait! You should fake passing out on stage, that would be hilarious.

Say "I feel nauseous... I need to go to the bathroom for a minute." When you come back, say "Ugh, I feel horrible. I just puked in the toilet..."

Just refuse, take the bad mark to spare the shame. there is nothing the teacher can do to stop you.

Just try to get sick. I know you have 0 absents left to use but can they really do anything about it if you are truly sick.

Talk 1 on 1 with ur teacher. Tell him/her that you get extremely nervous about speaking to a huge audience. tell him that lately you have not been sleeping well and that anxiety has taken over you. Idk maybe something along those lines might help you gte out of it. It wont work if your teacher is an a-hole though.

You can always say you have a social disorder that would seriously affect your mental well-being when put in front of nearly one thousand people. They can't make you do anything that could mentally hurt you or physically hurt you, so in your case doing a little research and being a fairly good actor can get you out of this situation.

I used this when I was in middle school a decade ago saying I had an unsettling fear of being an underachiever and could not emotionally compete with the greatness of the choir singing with a much more advanced high school choir.

Why did I do that you ask? I wanted to get high with some friends and go to a concert.

I think I could do the puke in the toilet idea, since I don't have many friends (new school) there probably wouldn't be too many bulimia rumors...
This is complete crap though, and close to the most inconvenient thing that my parents have ever supported.

I placed third, they extended the number of contestants to 10/grade apparently. The Spelling Bee was nonstandard, with words being determined beforehand.

Ex. Student misses a word, that student is out. The list continues without the next student spelling that word.

And a format where 'the first person out of the last two standing to get two words wins' and 'if both people miss their predetermined words, then they both get back in, but not the people before them that got out in the same round.'

During the Spelling Bee, the electricity went out while it was being broadcasted, so we had to start over and the people who got their words wrong during that short break were allowed to get back in.

They also chose the level of difficulty of words by grades.
    Ex.
    6th grade - crystal
    7th grade - responsibility
    8th grade - reconcile

The funniest part of this no doubt was when one of my friends got out on purpose - so he could play on addictinggames lol! Surfcontrol was added this year though, so it was blocked.

    The prizes were

Losers - posters of their choice
Winner - $70 gift card and year long subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Online.

I picked a Bart Simpson poster that says
Thanks to television I can't remember what happened 8 minutes ago
Oh yes, the word I missed was alibi, which I was off two letters on - 'alliby.'
