I think that I'm gonna work with Bitmaps, so I can work with Deformed and Tolerance. Cause even if you've got an M from te same fond it still is different in each captcha..
Look, I'm almost sure that this is the same font:
    Font
But still the M's aren't the same, so I have to work with Deformed bitmaps I think.. or is there a Deformed mode with DTM's to ?..

Bitmaps won't work. Even try - find two pictures with the same letter and cut it out and test. I would bet everything it won't work accurately enough to be practical. That's exactly what this system is designed to combat.

Even DTM's would likely fail, as the multiple lines will 'break' the area tolerance feature (they would detect almost anything).

I would make a line detector, find the base grid (look for parallel lines nearly exact distances from eachother), and remove it. Then all that's left would be the letters; fill them in, do some touch-ups, and then detect.

So you suggest something like make a DTM of a line, and let scar search for it with FindDTMRotated, so Scar will see how the Captcha stands (horizontal/vertical) then take the same line and let scar search something like 1 pixel above the line if there's a line like that too, if not, another pixel etc. So Scar will see how the "Base Grid" looks like. Well, I think that's possible if I'm gonna try it, but how do I remove the lines so only the letters keep left?
Sorry, but I really need some help..

    Bye,
    Wouter

    P.s.
Thanks for all the Replies till now

Could work. I would put more confidence in a combination of the canny edge detector and the hough transform, though.

I'm afraid it isn't gonna work, because if I put it in the Canny Edge Detector than I get something like this:
    Canny Edge Detector

But I can easily make it like this with Photoshop:
    Photoshop
So maby that would help ?..

Oh, haha, nevermind, wasn't thinking; their edges are already there, no need to find them with an edge detector. The hough transform didn't work too well, when I tried it, either. Custom algorithm seems preferable, though I'd bet the hough could be made to work.

I'm trying to make a captcha solver right now.. Hardest part is to get the letters out of it..

I can get big pieces of the letters already, yet long way to go..

About those image algorithms.. I've tried around 30 different (small program) and none of them returned letters clearly, so I think its upto making your own.

    Wouter::

I have been trying to make one for a long time now with no luck but i just came up with an idea.
Im thought of making all the images flat so they dont tilt at all im gone to do this in cs3 with vanishing point firts if i think it will help any i will code a program in C++ witch will set the images to a 90% right angle so there flat
(Im not the best coder but i should be able to do that)

Then i will try somthing to pull the letters out (might need some help i have no info on an ocr at all yet)

But i think a program that will take the image straight from omerta and not from a batch file set it as a flat image then see what i can do.from there.

I will keep you up to date on my progress if i have any rofl i hate this captcha and i am adiment to crack it.

Wow good luck doing this in scar. I would suggest first finding the angles based the rectangle around the letters. Then have a function mimic it so you can compare the result of each letter with that part of the image. Of course the hard part is mimicking the captcha, but since you insist on using scar it's gonna be hard anyways.

It's probably easiest to use the large empty spaces under the letters. The arrangement wouldn't change very much and wouldn't be as hard to copy.

I agree the best way would be to find the big white spaces under the letters
mastaraymond already made a script to do this somewhat
If the script can be perfected to work well then it's not that far of a step to finish the OCR by adding in a recognition system to figure out what letter/number the "white space" represents

Also the PHP code to create the captcha does not really help in any way to "crack" the captcha (I think...)

@W0uter I hope you are done using an alternative to making an OCR script and are ready to continue this project; I just realized it's not too far from a finish... (yeah right...)
