Default Hot light bulb + drop of water

Ok, this is what just happened, wdf. I had a cup of water that had like a drop left in it, and I was near a light I had on for like 6 hours. I dropped the drop on ti just for fun, and BOOM! the light EXPLODES really loud, smoke goes everywhere. I was in shock for like 2 minutes because I didn't know what would happen. The glass flew everywhere and I dropped my cup

So yeah, really fun to do It was one of those light bulbs that are shaped like a cone kinda. Like the kind usually in chandilears lights.

Wow, scared the shite outta me

    ~Harry

PS: I guess I need to learn more science about cold compressing, hot expanding, and sudden change in heat..

PS2: Change the title, it is supposed to be bulb, not bump and of, not or

Good job you didn't end up with broken glass embedded in your face. Darwin would have been pleased!

Cold water + Hot glass = contraction of outer layer = shattering!

yeah...lol, that'll happen to just about anything, I've shattered parts of ceramic that we were playing with in the camp fire next to a creek, and even cracked some iron that we were smithing....heat is a powerful force, as is massive heat transfer

Yes, that actually is what is suppose to happen since glass is pretty fragil, the water drop caused that area to contract resulting in a crack, now since a light bulb has a slight vacuum inside the inward pressure probably caused the light bulb to implode.

Be glad it was not one of the new compact fluorescents! Although I'm pretty sure they are more durable than standard incandescents if it broke you would have had a good amount of mercury in your room!
