    Default web-dev help

Me and my friend are going to make a website, we have never done web development before apart from making some stuff in dreamweaver and we're wondering what language should we learn. We have both done programming before just never web design stuff. We were thinking flash because we've made a fair few stick figure animations in that (lol) and flash websites look sweet but what do you guys reckon?

Oh I'd also prefer you not to say html

I dno, In dreamweaver you dont need to learn HTML, but its hella difficult to get text ontop of pics and to make links and shit.

I say learn CSS or HTML... PhP Is what i use.

    PHP is ftw,

    either that or ASP

only reason im saying ASP is because if your wanting to go into it professionaly then either one of them would be best. + in actual fact people are preffering ASP over PHP now adays.

PHP is easier to code, but if you want to make your own designs and stuff easier, I reccommend just learning basic HTML and doing photoshop designs and slicing them in dreamweaver.

    seriously now...

you have to know HTML and CSS at the very least!

and stick with dreamweaver. It's a lot easier to work with than all the other programs i have tried.

and Flash is actually pretty cool. i even made something on it that had 4000+ frames and ran for 3 1/2 mins+

    They are sisters...

Any site these days require dynamic and ALOT more security than HTML can offer. The ammount of websites i have seen which have simple security on them is just utter stupid. Theres not much point in learning how to code a website in notepad... who cares. Just use dreamweaver to give yourself a good layout and have it in HTML, make the pages .PHP and add your PHP code which you need.

PHP + MySQL + Good Coding (SQL injections) = Secure Site.

For your Flash needs, you are going to have to read alot of material. Either start off and buy a book like Foundation Flash CS3 for Designers (Foundation) , or download an ebook from "somewhere" and print them out.

Using the tools in flash itself is easy enough, anyone can do it. Using its actionscript is a totally different thing. There are many sites which you can use to learn flash from others.. Best one of all is www.flash-kit.com

    http://www.tutorialized.com
    Alot of tutorials there.

Tools you may want to use:
    Dreamweaver CS 3
    Flash CS 3
    Rapid PHP
    Xampp (Testing Pages)

ASP is a closed-source mega-failcannon. Use PHP if anything.
But you should just stick to HTML. Most anything you can do with Flash, you can do with DHTML.

yeah. HTML, CSS, PHP in that order. Then move onto others if you want. And personally, i hate Dreamweaver. I would reccomend just an editor like Notepad ++

and to learn php, instead of xampp(piece of crap) use wamp. http://wampserver.com/en/index.php

if you don't want html for websites gtfo. lol.
only other good option is xhtml/xml
and flash is OVER RATED it can't even be indexed by google, FTW?

by the way, for a WebSite you need webhosting (i hope you know that, lol ) and i'd sugest using 110mb.com for hosting but most any will work, except freewebs Never use freewebs their a total scam
