Get Wine and run SCAR with that. (Must use SMART)

No, you can't use it on RS without SMART. Look up some tutorials on using SMART.

I'm using scar right now without SMART.
    Is that a different program?
And BTW none of the SMART Tuts make any sense,
    way too confusing for me...

First off, I want to congratulate your brother. He has made a great decision.

Without SMART, you can't click on Linux.

Tell him to change back. I used scar with linux and it was a disaster for me. I was a leecher still and i searched all over google and stuff. I just changed back to Windows XP

Ps. The only thing good about Linux is that there aren't much viruses for it Other than that, its a bad OS

    Linux just owns all. Period.
And how hard can it be to use SMART? Really, five lines at most. It is harder to get it to work without than with.
I made a new script, check it out!.

*the brother:* Hello everyone, Linux is far superior to Windows in all aspects, It just requires that you learn what you are doing before you do things (mostly so you don't mess them up) and He does still have windows installed, this is a Dual-Boot configuration computer, so when the computer is turned on you are asked whether to boot Windows or Linux (ubuntu in this case)

I have successfully installed SCAR in WINE, and the suggested SVN software, however when in SCAR the checkout option returns the error "cannot copy... to plugins folder" I assume this is a permissions error with wine, however I cannot fix it even by running SCAR as sudo. The solution is as follows:

Instead of using the SVN program recommended for windows, I used the SVN package already in linux by running the following commands (this is why I had him ask for the repo URL):

    sudo apt-get install subversion
    subversion checkout http://www.srl-forums.com/srl-repos

then I copied all of the contents of ~/srl-repos to SCAR/Includes/SRL and everything seems to work. (command as follows)

    cp ~/srl-repos/ 'SCAR 3.15/Includes/SRL'
