    Default Gfx update date!

    From behind the scenes:

At the end of the month, there will be a break of a couple of weeks with no game updates. These two weeks are hugely important to us, as they allow us to prepare for the major graphical improvement in early July.
Early July is the first one or two weeks for me, means we gotta wait for only a month now?
I made a new script, check it out!.

Sounds like a good time to break the record for the longest script run...

Haha, you realize how much computational work that takes?

Remember, this is java we're talking about...

What they've managed to do so far is pretty amazing; excited to see what's soon-to-be and further into the future.

    RuneScape website says:

As you know, we currently offer 'High Detail' and 'Low Detail' modes. We plan on adding a new and optional detail mode, bringing you accelerated higher quality graphics. This will be in addition to the existing detail modes, as they will remain unchanged.
So, there you have it. We'll still have low detail to macro in ^.^

Also, in the development diary they have written:

As textures can have large file sizes, they would take too long to download. Mod Nick explains the process: “The Graphics team create textures in an editor, which then converts it into a series of instructions at a fraction of the file size. Instead of the game downloading a texture, it's recreated on the player's computer from that series of instructions, as and when it's needed. This is called procedural texturing.”

That to me sounds a bit like a Bitmap in SCAR

I joined this forum a long time ago. I leeched, I didn't really bother to properly learn SCAR and it's uses. I am sorry. I've matured, and I want to commit to a hobby I will enjoy and is worthwhile. Teach me.

Not really, SCAR bitmaps are more like a propriety format whereas what I think jagex are planning to do is put the instructions on how to create that format in the client rather than the image itself
