If the theme is image manipulation, what must we to do the image?

Also, you could just turn on the optimizations inside the Borland IDE. The code it produces is fast enough, believe me. Also, if you are really conscious about speed, look into the Free Pascal Compiler and its IDE, Lazarus (it should look pretty once DL'ed, but you might need to rebuild it into the right WM... if you're interested, I'll tell you). They might be the same speed-wise, but IDK.

The two languages are fairly the same, but they balance out: Delphi is RAD, so the contestant will have more time to improve, but the C languages *might* be slightly faster, and, C languages are not RAD, so the contestant should be judged less harshly.

EDIT: And although I don't think anyone will be using inline asm, take into consideration that it interferes with the compiler optimization.

Yea, what does RAD mean and all you gotta do is resize the image and convert the image to another format I believe.

RAD is Rapid development, as in the language is easy to use and you quickly generate changes and updates.

I'll join the next one, I think I'm a little late in joining this one... But try to make both a webdev and a programmer's one each week too ;D

EDIT: What I'm really saying, because all of those languages do not have much speed difference, is that Delphi should be judged just a little more harshly because its easier to program, and C# a little less harshly, and C/C++ a little more lax. Not a whole lot or it would be unbalanced, and we don't want that...

I dunno, I don't really have Windows atm so I couldn't really display the results / do anything except mess with the DI bits.

EDIT: I'll join as Delphi, but I can only supply the Lazarus project and the times benchmarked from my computer (Which is 64 bit, I dunno if it should count )

IMO, C++ is more difficult to code in than Delphi, so faster is fair. However I have no experience for "Image Manipulation" in either language, so I could be wrong there.

I hardly know anything in the way of Delphi, and didn't find anything useful for me for image changing in C++. I'll jump into the next round (and will probably be using a new language).

You should make the next round Brainfuck only.

If you program image manipulation in brainfuck, you automatically win. Meh, I don't think I'll be in this round...

    Hello World!

The following program prints "Hello World!" and a newline to the screen:

EW, the language looks ugly lol.

    Code:

When does it end? Depending on end date, I'll join with Java.

BTW, does it have to be a .exe? You can do a .exe in java, just more convenient to do a double-clickable .jar
