Default Glider fined $6,000,000 (3.36 million euros)

Yep, WoW finally won. They won the case and the glider bot for WoW was found in violation of WoW's TOS and fined $6 million.

Scar is safe as it is not only for runescape and freddy can claim it was only made for flash games and then misused... even so I highly doubt Jagex would ever bother taking a lawsuit against SRL or Scar as they don't damage the game really. Now that RWTing has been significantly reduced why bother?

EDIT: @Brain, it says 100,000 copies $25 each, that's 2.5m not 250k, still seems ludicrous though which is what I think your point was.

    Edit: better link http://virtuallyblind.com/2008/09/29...zzard-damages/

They didn't "finally won" its still not even close to being done yet. MDY (glider) agreed to paying the $6m because they knew some money would have to be paid for damages.

Beyond trial, of course, there will almost certainly be an appeal to the 9th Circuit on the issue of liability, which would negate the stipulation, and thus the $6m damages judgment, if MDY prevails.
There is still many other topics on trial here.

@How much money they've made from glider
    You guys are WAY off.
1st there is more like 200k-250k copies sold. (edit: even if it isn't this high, Subscriptions is still to consider)
2nd there is Elite subscriptions which is very popular and is $5 a month or $60 for lifetime.

There is no way to tell how much MDY has made. But its way more then your guys estimated 2.5m. I'd say $8m or more atm, so 6m isn't much.

What I think makes this case not in favour of Jagex is that the Glider software was actually sold for cash. SCAR is not sold and I doubt it ever will be sold. As soon as their is an automating program/script that charges for its use Jagex will be all over that person/people and suing them for every peny they made and more.

Aslong as it is free, there is really now issue...

If Freddy would be fined 6$ for SCAR I'd lol hard.

Anyhow.. Kind of lame to sue some autoing thing, but then again I suppose it caused alot of harm to WoW.

Blizzard is basing it off the complaints saying they've lost $900k in complaints.

    Which is bullshit...

Here's some math from Glider forums on WoW subscriptions.
This is just speculation and playing with numbers but lets say:

120 000 Glider subscribers for the past 12 months.
Average botter has approx. 2 accounts. (only speculation)

    120 000 * 2 = 240 000 World of Warcraft accounts.
    240 000 accounts * 12,99€(*) = 3 117 600,00~€

    3 117 600,00~€ * 12 months = 37 411 200~€

    37 411 200~€ = 52 345 751~USD
These numbers probably aren't far off. Some Glider people have up to 64 accounts.

I´ve never heard about that , but anyways , Training at WoW for me isnt hard , because I play at a private server..
I dont feel like paying to play... maybe , but just maybe a runescape membership... but WoW is much more expensive.

And well Nubgex cant do that to us because we do this for the sake of learning and becoming better at programming not just to make the game less boring

Actually just a few bucks more expensive. And private servers just suck, nothing like playing the real game.. And that goes for pretty much all games.

And you can make multiple characters in WoW.. In RS you have to pay for each one so...

It wouldn't make much sense if Jagex sued seeing how SCAR and SRL are both distributed free of charge. That and the settlement would be about six figures short of $6 million.

wow, this is pretty funny. I was just telling my friend to start autoing on WoW. But I would just like to say how much I apreciate Freddy's hard work on scar. If it wasn't for him, this community would not be here. If we all just think about it, Freddy is the most kind person to have spent so much time on a program for us... Thanks Freddy
