Default Would you be interested in a skill kit?

Description of what a skill kit is, is in my next post.

    Hey everyone,

I am considering making a skill kit for runescape like the now obsolete RSDemon. I have been told there has been one program come out like it since called RSAngel but after testing it it doesn't have even half the features I would like and seems to have complicated everything.

So would you be interested if I was to make my own skill kit (source code would be available to SRL Members, vb.net 2008) which would be based exclusively on srl. Meaning I would only release it here. I realise for a lot of members this would be completely useless as they don't actually play runescape but I just want to know if there would be a decent enough demand for it. I would probably release it in srl junior members section to hopefully drum up some increased interest in srl (assuming it is actually any good!).

    I wouldn't mind it...if you could elaborate
A skill kit like it does more than one skill for you at a time?

    Thanks blumblebee.

For those who don't understand what I mean it is not an autoing program or anything like that, it has a list of all the skills and in each skill section a list of what you can do with that skill. It would have a feature to fetch the player's levels (easy to do) and then using this the program calculates what you need to do for a certain level.

Take prayer, it would have a list of all the bones you can use and also all the prayers you can use ordered by the level required, there would be a # column which would show how many of that item you would need to use to reach a goal you specify (99 prayer for example) and so for dragon bones it would calculate how many bones you need to bury for 99 or how many you need to use on a guilded altar for 99. I'm not great at explaining so if you want to see an outdated (but still useful) version of what I am explaining check out RSDemon, a google search will find it.

    OH!
    I understand that!
But, I personally wouldn't use it, I just auto, and when I can do something new, I just keep doing the same thing, to get more levels

So I take it you'd be including various features like item databases, quest walkthroughs, and what-not to help players instead of having them open 1,000+ tabs/windows to kill their browsers?

I probably wouldn't use it very often but I'd definitely test it out.

Hmmm. I don't want to sound like a dooshbag. But I think that may be useless. We could just go to runehq or tip.it for that. And all that information on exps and whatnot won't be very useful.

I see where your coming from but this toolkit would bring all the skill calculators and quest guides etc into one app for your desktop, if you had tried RSDemon you would probably understand how useful it is! (plus you can save your players stats on it and view progress graphs when u update from hiscores)

Well, you can get most of your ideas from Swift Kit download it, it has the things your talking about included in it + rs client. Maybe if you want one to make one that would fit this community, you could make it more auto-friendly, somehow

Good luck, if you go through with it, I will definitely check it out.

Dude, I would definitely use it. An idea that I just had is that you should release two versions. One for low detail and one for high detail(with a preset game-window size such as 800x600. I still play rs all the time. Definitely do this please.

Yeah I suppose I could add those features in, the original version will be pretty bare so that others can check out the source code and add some code if they like which would move the coding on faster and give lots of different perspectives.

Thanks I am starting to think that I will go through with it, I may check this out if I am stuck for ideas but atm I think you would be amazed with the amount of features I am already thinking of (e.g. using ge to get current prices so that you can find out how many d bones you need nad how much that would cost in one click). Thanks for the input though and I look forward to your feedback when the original version comes out.

Whose guide database would u access? Or maybe... Let the user select which database?

It would take a bit of work to get it better then Swift Kit. But at some point I would use it.

    Edit:
Also if you make the source open to SRL-Members, it'll probably be improved faster.

Yet to be decided but I like your point selecting from a list of datbases. Another idea would be to make this a community project and allow people so submit quest guides etc.

Once I have created the skeleton of the program with some basic features I intend to do just that.

    This sounds like something good.

Can you list what you might include in your Skill Kit?

If there's anything a scripting noob like me can do to help please pm me or mail me and let me know. Even if it's like scrub work like finding the names or xp value of different bones or bows. I'm eager to help but the skills are weak. I don't want the credit, just want to try to help out how I can. Get in where ya fit in ya know?

In fact if anyone has any projects I can help with (with my limited skill level) please not only feel free to get ahold of me but be encouraged. I'd really like to help

    Thanks again for your time

Well right now the original version will not be packed with features as I have spent about 80% of my time working on it on editors, I am making all the skill files and everything else I can editable so that even non programmers can contribute. After that is sorted out I will be throwing in some pretty cool features!

As mentioned above I am adding editors that will allow non programmers to edit the skill files etc so everyone can contribute.

Thanks for the offer, might throw you an email once I get the original version and and running.

No but RSDemon has not been updated well over a year (it is missing 2 skills and has TONNES of outdated information, RSAngel may be updated but if you have tried using it, it is quite an annoying interface and a slow program.

For those interested I may add an srl IRC feature to it too, not in the original version though.
