Why buy when it's freely available to download at your own convenience.

i used Ubuntu for like a year, and yes linux is more stable BUT if you are planning to use any windows programs, like messengers or games, be prepared. It might be hard to make anything work. So, i wouldn't say its BETTER, i rather say its STABLE. So if you play any games with ur computer, use windows.

I think there are atleast equal or even better choices for messengers and most stuff in linux. Only thing really is games and some very exotic programs.

If you want the look of XP you can just use an emerald theme like this one: http://themes.beryl-project.org/theme_details.php?id=71

Linux is a better operating system. If you want games, go get a PS3 or N64 (DO A BARREL ROLL! ). I don't see the point in going to the start menu style of XP since GNOME and KDE have much better organization styles (dunno about XFCE)

Oh, and Linux doesn't have proper Adobe equivalents (other than maybe GIMP), that's about it.

Use GRUB for a Dual Boot, Ubuntu auto installs it anyway... Also Ubuntu has Pidgin, which I personally do not like, because it looks so much like MSN Messenger.
Ubuntu is really easy, and nice. Just use the packet manager.
EDIT: please note. Compiz > Beryl, and is included in the packet manager.

The best way to contact me is by email, which you can find on my website: http://wizzup.org
I also get email notifications of private messages, though.

But Emerald > Compiz, which I believe you need to use that theme

Plus Pidgin doesn't look that much like MSN other than the friend list structure thing, but practically all instant messengers use that style now. MSN just looks ugly, tends to fail to render properly, and lags me to hell

Now that I think about it, the only programs that differ for me between Linux and Widows are Transmission from uTorrent, and OpenArena from Quake 3: Arena

Yep! Just started using Ubuntu myself, and it's been great so far! Only issue is that it takes some time getting used to not being able to run programs which Windows could (mostly games).

I don't know why you'd get this distro, you could get a more stable, better supported one on KDE 4 and have similar organization. Start button, icons, etc.

@Zytex: You can do anything with Ubuntu...

I personally like Ubuntu a lot. I've been using for a little bit now and it's great.
