I'd say yes. It would deter some spam.

I'm not a big fan of the levels of separation at this forum as it is... and frankly, leechers are an important (although distasteful) part of most any community.
If there were to be an application thing, it would have to have an expanded auto-decliner, plus a team of people to vote. Leaving it open to all JR Members and above would be unwise - you'd get people with 11 posts saying yes because they feel like it.

All it will achieve is to deter people from becoming active. The site has thousands of registered users, with a general filter process of 1 in x becoming active members of the community. By lowering the initial number, you would just lower the overall influx of active members as you would deter some of them.
By reading this signature you agree that mixster is superior to you in each and every way except the bad ways but including the really bad ways.

Though I don't know what comes with the title of being a Junior Member, I assume it isn't much. However, in the same hand, that doesn't mean that spam should be tolerated.

In a game I currently play, the forums are a large part of the game. One thing that the makers have done to drastically reduce spam is to make a modification that essentially analyzes a persons post. To my knowledge, it analyzes the post size, sentence structure, paragraph complexity, and much more. If the post is spam, it goes through but is not counted as a post and a potential demerit is awarded. Now, I'm not saying that SRL needs to go to such lengths. Merely having a word counter would likely stop most of the spam that you speak of ("wow. nice...").

    Edit,
Also, if anyone would be so kind. What are the diffrences between a member and junior member? To my current knowledge, you can only become a member via submitting a script. I'm curious - does it have to be a complex script, multiple scripts, or what?

Once you become juniour members, you'll get a sticky on how to do it.

Gah, another leecher. Even whilst i'm typing this post.
    http://www.srl-forums.com/forum/member.php?u=54703

Anyway, in summary, you need to know how to script, and script well at that. A good attitude helps too. A script with basic requirements stated in the sticky.

Knowing how to script is the main road to SRL Membership, but a nice attitude and activeness, and hoping a admin would notice has been one of the less travelled roads.

You're surprising for a registered member, less than 10 posts and you actually spell. And well at that.

    Good luck.

Yeah, I'd have to agree, I'm currently trying to be Junior members and i'm basically forced to spam good threads.

    I support it 100%
IMO you should have to demonstrate that you atleast know scripting basics and that you can contribute to become a junior member.

I think that it is a good idea, but would never work :P I think to become a junior member, you should have to be here for 2 weeks instead, but no post count.

Yes! I think people have to contribute somewhat to be able to get the better goods.

I try to be constructive in my 10 posts. Just because some people don't want to contribute doesn't mean they should be at a disadvantage. No-one pays for these.
hence where all on the same level, correct?
Besides, if your posts are too spammy they get deleted. so meh.

Good idea but i don't like the voting idea because not many people would vote. (there are better things to do)
I'd suggest that there would be a few (10 maybe?) people who checked applications frequently (like once a week per person). If the candidate shows ANY interest in SCAR-coding, he'd get promoted as a Jr.Member.

I don't there should be any skill-requirements, because its only Junior Member after all. Active interest and involvement are enough.

STOP! Look, the Junior Member rank is just a leecher filter. It's really hard to ban leechers that don't even post, so now they have to post to leech, they want to leech quickly, they spam, we ban. Junior Member rank is not something you'd really have to work for. We are a community offering scripts for free, only wanting feedback.

Unless suddenly without seeing this before, an admin pops in, agrees and just makes SRL private, for now it's 10 posts and a week for Junior Members...

    I'd say.

This may seem a bit odd but I like leechers...

The more they leech, screw up, and get their accounts banned, it seems less likely that Runescape will actually look at us who take the time to use caution like armies, sleeping, mixing up skills etc...

While i think post count is important i think that the time spent on forums should also be taken into consideration,i think it was mentioned above, but if your going to spam your going to do it quickly and spend as little time here as possible so you can you get your script and bounce, but if you stick around and read threads and contribute your showing that you want to learn and that you will stick around regardless of your scripting capabilities at the moment.

True, but it shows exploits. If they constantly get banned on one thing, they know that SCAR sucks at it. So, they can try and work on other things.

    Your theory is good.

having them know how to script is a load of b***** but i agree there should be another requirement put in, there are loads of jr's who contribute but can't script, it just wouldn't be fair, we don't rely on leechers like rsbot but we do to some extent. tbh i think that maybe an app should be going, they provide proof that they have contributed at least 10 posts, no voting just an admin decides, but they'd still have to have been here a week or more.
