I still say that you cut the stems.

You should post some pics of what the plants look like and the surrounding area so that we can come up with more ideas. Like if it is a certain type of plant there might be an easy way to kill it?

Seriously just throw it in a freezer for an hour and it will get frost bite and die...unless it is a really hardy plant.

I don't remember if this was suggested but try using boiling salt water instead of just cold salt water. This allows you to pack like three times more salt into the water and the heat will really hurt the plants.

Iodine and cornstarch. There isn't a reaction, but the starch holds the iodine so it can be absorbed. Or you can use the type of Drain Cleaner that is mostly sulfuric acid, it will eat away the roots. It also contains an inhibitor to prevent too much heat from being created. You could also use Lye (pretty pure) that you could probably buy... Anywhere? Mix it with water and wash it off your hands, quick (Don't spill the Sulfuric Acid Drain Cleaner on you, either)

I will take pics later when he goes to band. So far I have salt watered them (hot tap) and put concentrate laundry detergent in them.

    To no visible effects

This may be a lil messy, but be as clean and neat as possible so it's not noticable...

you will need about 3 or 4 of those cheap lighters (the ones you can adjust the flame) - Dollar Store FTW!

gently dig your way down to the roots, try and find a few of the bigger ones (small ones may be a lil mor difficult) choose 2 or 3 of them, and give a tiny lil snip (razor will work best) now take your lighters, and for each root you snipped, unscrew the lighter ALL the way (the fluid will shoot out so make sure you aim it at the root) it will not only shoot fluid into the root, but will also freeze it now cover it back up and fix the soil so it looks like it was touch

afterwards, you can also try unscrewing a lighter and dropping it in a cup of water (diluted lighter fluid? :P ) then water the plants with that...

NOTE: make sure you have either an open window or a fan and some car airfresheners jus incase IF there is any smell, it should be gone in 30 mins or so...

Lemme know if it works (h)

OK time for the best Idea yet. You use ether alchohol I suggest ethanol thatl abosolutely smash them. Next would be vinegar, pour some on the roots, stem and there gonners. Or If you want to have real fun go grab some ingredients.
    * Toss dry colorants onto the flames.
    * Soak logs in an alcohol solution of colorants.
    * Soak logs in an aqueous (water) solution of colorants and allow the logs to dry.
    * Prepare pinecones, sawdust, or cork with colorants.

AND watch them burn green. Woopde do the plants are dead your room mates pissed off, tell him to get a life and stop growing queer plants in your dorm.
    Problem Solved.!

The "fluid" in lighters is compressed butane. As soon as it leaves the pressurized container it changes to the gaseous phase. So you cannot dilute it with water at 1 ATM, sorry And butane is odorless, unless they add a scent to it. Nice suggestion freezing the roots though.....might try it with liquid carbon dioxide....

Hydrochloric acid. HCl. Best easily-available stealth killer. Looks like water, cheap to buy anywhere. Just run over to a hardware store.

This is the easiest way of killing a plant. Take a cap full of rubbing alcohol and poor it down the top of the plant down to the base. The Alcohol with reverse the photosynthesis and paralyze the cells of the plant. It takes about a week for you to see results so A. Super stealth. B. Kills the plant. C. You can not revive the plant it stays drunk till you change the dirt.

    Good luck!

Default How to kill plants using chemical

Some weedy trees and large shrubs have been cut to the ground, but I do not want to dig and cause soil erosion. I understand that it is best to apply the root killer when the plants are still active, or trying to obsorb nutrients down to the roots. Also, should I use the concentrated weed killer, or use the regular diluted one. I currently use the Round-up Brsh killer, "ready to use". I do not know yet how effective it is.

    UPDATE!

1 plant is looking pretty sickly, possibly dying
1 plant does not look good, possibly on its way to dying
1 plant looks healthy still, but its the newer plant, so I have salted it less

Why not just kill the room mate instead XD? Solves your plant problem haha. On a serious note, like basically everyone said, rubbing alcohol should do it. Or you could try that tiki torch lighter fluid stuff, can't think of the name of it ATM lol. Good luck in your killings!

Lol. I've got another idea though. The other day I deep fried some chips that you buy frozen from the supermarket, and because I'm so lazy instead of disposing of the dirty oil properly I just went and tipped it out on the back lawn lol. Now theres a big dead patch of grass on the place where I tipped it, and my parents are angry at me lol. But anyway. Try putting a bit of olive oil over the leaves and stem, the plant will look kinda "shiny" though so its not really stealth. But yeah it works because it stops respiration as the plant cant get any C02 (due to the layer of oil), so the plant just dies. Maybe you could put a really thin layer over it, it would still work but it might not be noticeable.

Brain I like the dry ice idea. It should frostbite the plant epically. Just wondering... is there another window in your dorm (I think is where you said you were staying) Because if there is could you just move the plants...?

Idea take out the soil of the plants and put something under them like a balloon so there is less soil in the pot thus there is less stuff to hold the water for it to absorb... The balloon is so the soil line is the same.

Have you tried the lower stem cut yet? It seems that the salt is a little slow.
